Vehicle Description
The Autocar, November 1954, quoted "One of the most intriguing cars
introduced at the 1953 London Motor Show was the MG 1.5 litre
Magnette. Bearing the name made famous in pre-war races, when the
fierce looking K3 two-seaters appeared in events which included the
T.T. and the Mille Miglia, the Magnette from Abingdon makes a
pleasant picture for those motorists who require a lively saloon
which can provide comfort whilst possessing a sporting character".
Presented in two tone grey/maroon, DEF 150 offers a little more in
the driving experience for modern day roads. This has been achieved
with the addition of a servo assisted braking system, disc brakes
at the front and a five-speed gearbox. These modifications allow
the MG to stop very well whilst making cruising at speed a
pleasure. Further additions include halogen headlamps, electronic
ignition, negative earth and alternator conversion. In all, it may
be stated that the modifications have made this MG safer and more
reliable. The coachwork presents very well and is complimented by a
set of chrome wire wheels, the MG having had a bare metal
restoration in the 1990s. In 2015, the power plant was overhauled
with the works including an un-leaded fuel conversion whilst the
cooling system has recently benefitted from a re-cored radiator.
Look inside and you are welcomed by the warmth of the lovely
patinated red leather interior, certainly inviting you in. The
headlining is excellent and the wood trim is in good order. On a
recent test, the MG started easily and drove and stopped very well,
the five-speed conversion and uprated braking system coming into
their own on the test. This MG Magnette is UK registered and
although exempt from the MoT test, the vendor has informed us that
it will arrive at the sale with a fresh MoT test certificate to aid
confidence for any potential buyer. The well presented history file
includes the original buff log book, a British Motor Industry
Heritage Trust certificate and records of the many awards at the
shows the MG has attended. In addition, there is a Driver's
Handbook, Operation Manual and a useful Workshop Manual. This
attractive MG offers so much and we believe will attract much
interest given the sensible estimate. For sale by auction on
