While the phrase "Forty Ford" often conjures images of monochromatic customs that tread heavy on form and light on function, it can also be a buzzword for tradition. In fact, the pre-war market is full of great design, solid reliability and big style. And with those virtues in mind, this awesome coupe is a living example of why, decades after their introduction, traditional, V8-powered Fords enjoy a massive fan base. Combining 350 cubic inches of tri-power small block with a smooth Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed, this stylish classic is a fully sorted road warrior that's poised for the spotlight and destined for the cruise in! If you're ready to step up to the charm and class that made America great, take a close look at this streamlined hot rod!

BODYWORK/TRIM

The hot coupe's solid steel body began life as a run-of-the-mill commuter that was maintained, driven and paraded for most of its existence. During a detailed, frame-off restoration, that old school metal was stripped, sanded and layered in Ford Mandarin Maroon single-stage. At the front of that smooth pigment, a flowing grille centers a polished divider between a guarded bumper and chrome-trimmed headlights. Behind that grille, a deco "V8" badge traces a Ford-branded hood, which founds polished wipers at a tinted greenhouse. At the sides of that glass, a stainless-trimmed profile floats small mirrors, a polished fuel cap and style-matched door handles above matted steps. And at the back of that profile, Ford Blue branding shades a polished trunk handle, polished exhaust tips and a second guarded bumper.

ENGINE

Pop the hood and you'll find 350 cubic inches of durable Chevy small block that's fully sorted and ready to roll. Everything falls in to motion when louvered air cleaners jam wind in to three Rochester 2-barrels, which throttle a trick Edelbrock intake. At the edges of that intake, old school Oldsmobile valve covers loom 7mm Belden Premium cables over coated, long-tube headers. Those cables drain a quality Mallory distributor, which is wired to a hot aftermarket coil. Opposite that coil, polished pulleys assist polished brackets in spinning a coated compressor next to a polished alternator. And in front of those ancillaries, a beefy Walker radiator plays well with a polished support cover and a big Cooling Components puller fan. Despite being a thoroughly massaged piece, the Chevy Orange mill fits well in the car's body-matched engine compartment. And details like a Holley fuel regulator, a Mr. Gasket pressure gauge and a roster of polished accessories mix first-rate looks with first-rate functionality.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Behind the stout 350, a GM Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed twists power to a Ford 8-inch axle that's fitted with road-ready gears. Beneath that drivetrain, a completely rebuilt suspension employs traditional leaf springs behind a Mustang II front-clip that's finished with power rack-and-pinion steering. Power front disc and rear drum brakes provide quick, drama-free stops. Charred dinosaurs float from the aforementioned headers to 2.5-inch exhaust, which frames tidy Flowmaster mufflers. And torque meets the pavement via painted steelies, which spin 185/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial whitewalls in front of 215/70R16 Hankook Dynapro whitewalls.

INTERIOR

Like most massaged hot rods, this Ford comes equipped with a tasteful custom interior. A firm bench seat, flanked by plush leather panels, features modern lap belts. In front of that seat, a body-matched dash hangs familiar Auto Meter telemetry above modern climate control and a slick Lokar shifter. The driver spins a leather-wrapped, banjo-style steering wheel around a painted, tilting column. And the tunes keep bumping thanks to a custom-mounted Sony Xplod CD player.

This classy Ford coupe is fully sorted and ready to roll! You really can't ask for a nicer cruiser, and you certainly can't build a car this cool for anywhere near our asking price. If you're on the hunt for an old school show stopper that's ready to log miles and turn heads, your search is officially over!
