For Sale: 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider in Sacramento, California

Vehicle Description

If you are a true Alfista, here is the opportunity of a lifetime! Here is the menu of what I am offering:

THE APPETIZER

This 1977 Spider has been my everyday car for many years. It has gone through a good refurbishing once. New paint, high quality Mercedes Benz cloth for the convertible top, high quality carpeting, racing cloth bucket seats. It’s a solid California car. It needs some light body work on the rear left fender. When I repainted the car, I discovered that it had been repaired across the nose, not in the appropriate manner. Whomever repaired it, brass welded the panel instead of using good old steel. Brass is too soft to withstand any vibrations, after a while it will crack, and so will the bodywork and paint. The engine is the highlight of this car. I rebuilt the engine with 10:1 high compression pistons and higher lift camshafts. The head was resurfaced so that will augment the compression, and I retarded, for more efficient burning, the camshaft timing. You can run this engine with the original fuel injection pump or with dual Dellorto side draft carburetor or dual Webers. The gear box is performing strongly, nice smooth and tight shifting and the differential is nice and quiet. It has five custom wheels. Not sure but I think the engine, transmission and differential are all original.

MAIN COURSE:

1961 Giulietta Spider 95/% restored. Everything has been removed from the car for body work and paint restoration including wiring. Doors, hood, trunk lld, windshield, door glass, etc. Body work was done by Sacramento craftsman, Mark Mellinger and I. I put 18 Coats of red lacquer on top of color sanded primer ditzler k200. I finished by layering 8 Coats of sealer lacquer 50/50 with the rosso corsa. The paint still needs to be color sanded And polished. It is going to be spectacular! All rust was removed and new steel was welded as necessary. Floor inside and out was rust proofed with zero rust, top coated with sound proofing material. All chrome has been redone. The car basically needs to be reassembled. The Giulietta is complete minus two front seals and top cloth. At this point and time, I have started to repair the right rocker panel fabricated in aluminum. It needs to be installed. I also rebuilt the brake master cylinder. Not a matching numbers engine. Gear box is good. This car has front disk brakes and rear drums. I had bought the car from Michael Spyers, a young man working in Hollywood as a voice over for cartoons. He claimed this car was featured in the movie "The Day of the Jackal”. I have stopped this project due to an illness.

DESSERT

My garage is full of Alfa goodies from a collection of “Alfa owner” magazines to rare Italian factor manuals to a local Alfa publication and full of how-to tips and suggestions. You will find Alfa steering wheels, front shields, Giulia super parts, GTV, and GT Junior parts. I have Giulia and Giulietta doors hoods and trunk lids. And Giulia and Giulietta bumpers, a complete 1750 engine, heads, blocks, suspension parts, original Giulietta wheels transmissions differentials disks brakes springs, exhaust and intake manifolds, fuel injection pumps carburetors, starters, gen. alt and Montreal gears. There are many more boxes filled with interior and exterior parts. My goal was to put the 2L engine and the limited slip differentials in the Giulietta. It will make that car a”one of a kind” for sheer enjoyment. Forget matching numbers for once and just enjoy the beauty of the car and the awesome power from the best Alfa Romeo that has produced through the years. The possibilities are numerous.
