Vehicle Description
Park Place Ltd is pleased to present this absolutely gorgeous 1939
Mercury 8 Coupe. Completely restored and impeccably finished in a
very pleasant show-quality Tan paint color with an equally fabulous
interior featuring Tan upholstery, this '39 Coupe is an outstanding
example of a very rare first-year of production Mercury that came
to us from the Art Astor Devotion Collection. Power comes from a
239ci V8 (factory rated at 95hp) with Columbia 2-Speed Overdrive
Trans. The 1939 Mercury V8 was the first in the Ford product line.
It was produced at the insistence of Edsel Ford who realized Ford
needed a product that filled the $500 gap between the Ford Deluxe
and the Lincoln Zephyr. It was priced at $934 and featured a 95
horsepower flathead V8 motor. It utilized a three-speed manual
transmission with Columbia overdrive. This fine example's mile-deep
paint sparkles in the sun. The body is straight and solid and the
paint is in excellent condition. The tan fabric interior is not
worn or soiled and the plastic on the steering wheel is not chipped
or scratched. It is fitted with fog lights and white wall tires.
This car easily cruises at freeway speed and is a pleasure to
drive, with excellent road manners and a capable engine. This
Mercury's amazing overall condition, charm and character make it
difficult not to fall in love with this near 80-year-old classic.
An excellent example of a 'First' Mercury that's ready to drive,
show, and enjoy!Los Angeles Broadcasting Pioneer Art Astor was a
man known for many things. A dedicated businessman, a loving father
and grandfather, and a first rate soldier, Art was also known for
his incredible devotion to the automobile. Among the last remaining
automobiles in Art Astor's legendary collection. The Devotion
Collection featured the cars truly closest to Art's heart. These
fourteen remaining offerings are vehicles that Art felt so
passionately about that he kept them the closest to him, through
the end of his life and include prime examples of Pre and Post War
American Classics, American Luxury Cars and European Sports
Cars.Although "Eight" script would not appear on the front of the
hood until the 1941 model year, sales literature prominently
referred to the car as the "Mercury Eight" from the very beginning.
It was a good-sized car, which the Ford company advertised
extensively, together with its up-to-20 mpg performance - "few cars
of any size can equal such economy."For more information or to
