For Sale: 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Series V Vantage in Maldon, Essex,
Just arrived, a very rare 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Series V Vantage
Convertible with the very desirable Special Series engine.
In September 1962 Aston Martin introduced the final version of the
DB4, which was designated the DB4 Series V (Five) and featured a
number of changes over previous versions including recessed three
piece tail lights, a taller and longer body to provide more
interior space and slightly smaller wheels, which kept the overall
height the same. The front of many Series V cars had the same
aerodynamic design with closed-in headlights as that already used
on the DB4 GT, a style that was later carried over to the DB5, but
a number retained the open headlight styling of the earlier series
cars. Of the 1,110 DB4's constructed, only 70 were convertibles,
and just 14 were constructed as Vantage specification.
Originally finished in Fiesta Red with fawn Connolly hide trim this
right hand drive DB4 was specified with chrome wheels and a
Motorola radio and Special Series Vantage engine upgrade. Displayed
on the Aston Martin stand at the 1962 Earls Court Motor Show, the
car was sold new to Fendar Limited of Old Bond Street, London W1.
From 1970 to 1971, the Aston was owned by Mr & Mrs J B Guyatt of
Harrow, passing next to one D Clarke and then, in 1973, to Mrs &
Mrs B Mountford of Marlow. Next owner Mr G Ely of Northamptonshire
kept the car from 1986 to 1996, amassing a most impressive concours
record with the AMOC from 1989 to 1996. Pictured in three books,
including: '1001 Images of Cars' (Tiger Books), 'Aston Martin -The
Complete Car' (Palawan) and 'Aston Martin Heritage' (Nixon &
Newton). The DB4 is believed to have been owned in the 2000s by
John Sinders, a Texas banker and Aston Martin collector, who was
part of the consortium of investors who purchased AML from Ford in
March 2007.
Previously part of an International collection, the DB4 is about to
undergo full JD Classics recommissioning and detailing after long
term storage.
Further details to follow.
