Vehicle Description
Q-code... in cars it means the ultimate sleeper, and so this 1966
Ford Thunderbird Landau Coupe might just be the ultimate Q-code
with its original 428 V8 recently rebuilt. Then again, with it's
slick black attitude and comfy A/C interior, this has so much more
value than just a cool sleeper coupe.
Can one classic be both sophisticated and mean all in the same
glance? After all, the special Landau roof is covered in premium
black vinyl and it has a jewel-like ornamentation. But when it
combines with the slick black paintwork, you get the impression of
something a bit more menacing. And all that gloss in the paint is
the perfect complement to the brightwork. In fact, the way the
front bumper follows the contour of the angular nose, and the rear
one surrounds the wide emblem taillights, this was the era when the
Thunderbird really looked like Lincoln had made them. The final
touch to unite the premium shine and performance attitudes is seen
on the 15-inch American Racing wheels with staggered tire sizes for
a little extra stance (lovers of originality will like the correct
hubcaps and side skirts that also come with the sale.)
Personal luxury really meant something in 1966, as the tasteful
bucket seat interior offers plenty of eye candy for both driver and
passengers. The exterior black returns as an accent color to this
bright white and wood themed luxury interior. A center console was
standard equipment, and it includes controls for the power windows,
AM/FM stereo, and air conditioning that's still blowing cold. The
gauges have that 60s-cool setup that is so intricate that we know
no factory would ever dare try in modern times. The ribbon-style
speedometer sits on top, and four fashionable individual round pods
finish the gauge package. With style a priority in these T-birds,
the swing-away steering wheel was also standard.
This is the kind of engine bay you'll love showing off because of
the attention to detail it received during its restoration. We love
the way the big blue block and bold air topper look against the
deep black paint. And all the shine from the valve covers, master
cylinder, and much more really makes for a terrific total
presentation. But more than just look nice, this was built to be
driven. The few people who upgraded to the Q-code 428 like this one
were those who wanted serious power, and now this one takes that
spirit and kicks it up a notch. The original big block V8 was
rebuilt and includes bored .030 over kit, crank re-machined, all
new bearings, and a new camshaft. It's also now topped with a Quick
Fuel four-barrel carburetor to let this monster motor inhale
deeper. But the exhaust note only has the T-bird's standard
sophisticated tone, so it's a true sleeper. In fact, when you look
at the undercarriage photos, the red oxide will make you think this
is a survivor. But the new sway bar, ball joints, tie rod ends, and
bushings let you know this is one has been cared for to feel solid
on the road. Plus, with C6 three-speed automatic transmission,
power steering, and front disc brakes, it's also a great all-around
cruiser.
So is this one more of a sleeper or a slick street rod? Well,
you'll have plenty of time to decide that as you drive around in
total A/C comfort. But you can only do so if you're fast enough to
grab this deal. Call now!
