The Model -For 1953, Studebaker using designs by Raymond Lowey,
brought out a line of radically restyled cars that were
cutting-edge in design for the time. Low, sleek and with a
relatively powerful V8 engine, they helped keep this struggling
independent alive for a few more years. In 1956, using the Packard
V8, the Golden Hawk was born. For 1957, the talents of Duncan McRae
gave the Lowey coupe a few tasteful updates, such as concave rear
fins and developing a fiberglass filler panel for the hood. The
panel was needed to accommodate the Paxton Supercharger fitted to
the new Golden Hawk. Also, new was the use of the Studebaker
designed and built Sweepstakes V8. The interior was restyled
presenting a clean, attractive and functional dashboard created for
the "Sports Car Pilot". It featured a group of simple and easy to
read gauges for speed, fuel, temperature and a tachometer. Just
4,356 customers stepped up for the Golden Hawk in 1957, and few, if
any, were disappointed with their purchase.
The Car - Finished in Tiara Gold with the Arctic White accent in
the rear fins, this beautiful example of the 1957 Golden Hawk looks
and acts showroom fresh. With the "Jet-Stream" Supercharger
supplied by Paxton, this little Studebaker had plenty of pep and
power for those at-speed acceleration needs. The engine on this
Golden Hawk looks like it is ready for display on a showroom floor.
On the street, the operation of this vehicle is quiet and
effortless, especially with the Flight-O-Matic transmission
supplied by Borg-Warner. All of the gauges are in working order and
are presented in like-new condition in both looks and operations.
Traveling down a back-road or on a modern highway, this car not
only stands out in a crowd but is a leader too! Ready for judging,
this car is a sure-fire way of bringing home trophies and awards.
With comfortable seats in tan leather combined with the sound
insulating qualities of the perforated vinyl-lines roof, this
Golden Hawk would be right at home for one who desired only the
best.
