For Sale: 1968 Dodge Charger in Princeton, Minnesota

Vehicle Description

SOLD! SOLD! SOLD!

383 4bbl 3 spd Auto.  Red w/ Black Vinyl Interior & Top.  15" Magnum 500 Wheels w/ Spinners.

Update 11/3/2017:  I have a sale pending, however I plan to leave the car listed here until the deal is final.  Feel free to contact me anyway, and I will share more pictures with you if you are interested, and I will also keep you updated as to the status of the availability.

Update 10/21/2017: I've had a lot of interest in the car, but still no takers.  My loss, your gain.  I need to free up the garage before the winter is here in MN.  So dropping the price and still open to offers.  Also, I'm having a pro redo the headliner.  Material is already on order.  Hope to have it installed in the next week or so, but if sold before install, either the material will go with the car, or you can wait until installation is done before taking the car.  Thanks again for your interest!  Ryan

Update 9/11/2017:  I've learned a lot about my car over the past few weeks while having this posted for sale.  Thanks for all the interest, and for all the great questions.  Every person I talk to teaches me something new about the car.  I wish I were as much of an expert as many of you, and I appreciate your patience with me as a seller who doesn't know as much about 1968 Dodge Chargers as he probably should.  This may have caused me to over value it a bit.  Now that I know more about the car I do think that I listed it on the high end of the valuation, though many of you have said that I have it priced right, even after seeing it in person.  At any rate, I've decided to drop the price from $40K to $35K so that it's a better value for those of you potential customers, and so I can move the car faster.  Thanks! Ryan

Original Posting:  I originally bought this car because my father had almost the exact same one brand new from 1968 to 1972 and I loved to hear stories about it.  It was the car he had the whole time my parents dated.  My grandparents gave my parents a 1972 Charger as a wedding present, with the trade in of his 1968.  I still remember the 1972, but it has long since gone.  Unfortunately, his original '68 was totaled out by the next owner within the next year.

I purchased this car in May of 2001 from a dealer in Detroit.  It had Alabama plates on it at the time and the dealer had recently purchased it in Alabama from a private seller.  Through some detective work after finding a shipping label under the aftermarket radio, I was able to contact the previous owners wife.  Her husband had restored this car and also a Little Red Express.  Unfortunately he had recently died from lung cancer and this is why she sold the car.

Up until I owned it, I believe this car spent it's entire life in the south.  With the exception of the trunk pan which has some of the sheet metal replaced, all metal is solid and original.  No rust.  Straight as an arrow, all lines and gaps are good.  Doors, hood and truck open and close perfectly and still do.  Pneumatic flip up headlights work.  All exterior lights work with exception of turn signal indicators in the hood.  They may only need bulbs, I've never checked.  All Interior lights used to work, but I discovered that the dash lights no longer work.  Not sure if it's bulbs, or possibly the dimmer switch.

In the first year all I did was change the air cleaner to a 14" Edelbrock as I was having trouble finding new filters to fit the Direct Connection air cleaner that was on the engine.  I still have the DC one and it is included.

I also immediately purchased a high quality indoor/outdoor cover from California Custom Car Covers.  It is embroidered in red with " '68 Dodge Charger ".  This car has always been covered and kept inside, summer and winter, and only driven about 200 miles or less each summer.

In 2005 I had the front end alignment and suspension professionally adjusted by a private classic car expert as I was getting uneven tire wear on front tires and squeeling when I turned corners.  The tires also rubbed on the frame if I turned too sharp.  Since I have had this alignment, and since I have replaced the tires,  I have not had this problem.

In the last year, I put on new tires (less than 200 miles), rebuilt the carb, installed a new battery, upgraded the battery cable terminals, added a choke cable, and converted it to SSBC front disc brakes, including a new master cylinder and of course a proportioning valve for the rear brakes.  I still have the original drum brakes and master cylinder and these are included with the car.

Why am I selling?  When I bought the car in 2001, my plan was that my parents would drive it in their retirement, I would fully restore it for my kids to take to Sr. Prom, and that I would then drive it in my retirement and leave it to my kids, but this was all before I even met my wife or had any kids.  I'm now married with 5 kids.  My wife isn't interested in cruisin' in it or going to shows, we can't all fit in it together, and my parents haven't driven it much.  I also own an '87 Monte Carlo SS that I've had since my Sr. Year in HS (94-95), and just last year we had a custom 6 Door F350 Superduty built for us to haul our whole family.  All those things mean it's time to let her go to a new owner that can enjoy having her and give her a little more attention and TLC, just in time to celebrate her 50th year.

Thanks for checking out my listing, and here are some additional specs.  I look forward to talking and meeting some of you soon.
