Vehicle Description
Chances to own what is for many enthusiasts the classic
quintessential red sports car, don't come along very often. The
Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. With performance and handling that
match its aesthetics, it's the car that automotive dreams are made
of. This '86 represents a rare chance to grab that rare specimen of
the breed, one that features unusually low miles and loving care
that have combined to result in a car that grows all the more
alluring the closer you get.
The factory Guard's Red on this cabriolet is in great shape from
front to back. It's got a uniformity that follows you from front to
back as you check it out. No bubbling, no blotches or unevenness of
color or texture and the clearcoat glows from every angle. The
black trim and bumper guards are unscuffed and unfaded. Retaining
the exterior color it came off the line with, so effectively
contrasted by the equally pristine black rims and trim, this
Cabriolet hasn't been messed with in the name of "modification" and
it's a good thing. The engineers at Porsche definitely knew what
they were doing when they brought this model to life - a great
blend of form and function - so any serious changes to their vision
would be tantamount to drawing a henna tattoo on the Mona Lisa.
Whether its black convertible top is up to protect you from the
elements or lowered into the protection of the matching black boot,
it's just a great looking car.
The original Champagne interior is equally impressive and reflects
very careful use. The bucket seats look fresh - the bolstering
intact and unusually free from the wrinkling you see so often. The
tan carpet from front to back gives the entire interior a nice,
understated look, providing just the right amount of contrast and
topped with black floor mats. The stick shift bears a wooden knob
and matching boot. Peering through the original Porsche steering
wheel, you'll see that the factory gauges recessed into the black
dash all function just as intended and look back at you from
unusually clear lenses. There's nary a crack on the dash as well.
Up front in the storage compartment, everything is nice and tidy.
The climate-controlled air conditioning and heater system is still
getting it done as well as it did when this droptop first saw the
road. Even the factory original Blauplunkt AM/FM cassette system
still sounds good - as if it's never suffered an abusive bass note
in its considerable lifetime.
Porsches have a reputation as a "driver's car" that's both well
earned and well documented over the decades and this Carrera is
equipped to represent that reputation very ably. The fuel-injected,
3.2 liter horizontal six engine is a great powerplant - all about
no muss - no fuss performance. Connected to the G915 5 speed manual
transmission, it makes for a combination plenty fun in a variety of
conditions - geared low enough for off the line performance, but
with a .77 ratio in 5th gear, providing nice low revs on the
highway. Of course, part of performance lies in being able to come
to a stop ably as well and you're covered there too, with
generously sized power disc brakes all the way around. The stock,
black 16" Porsche rims are wrapped in a set of Continental Extreme
tires with a lot of rubber still on them, just itching to get on
the road.
Even the seemingly unattainable can sometimes be attainable. Here's
your chance to put a truly classic, red convertible Porsche with
low miles (and even a certificate confirming its lineage and
authenticity), in your garage. Call today!
