For Sale at Auction: 1992 Honda Beat in Tacoma, Washington

Vehicle Description

1992 Honda Beat:  10,314 original miles (16,600 kilometers), 5-sp transmission, a/c, front air dam and rear spoiler, original Gather’s “Beat” radio and speakers (the Honda Beat was named because the radio kept the beat of whatever was playing on the radio); original steering wheel and gearshift knob, original zebra-striped interior and floor mats (the only interior option offered by Honda); perfect convertible top (no tears), a clear back window and very rare original tonneau cover, excellent tires with very tasteful aftermarket alloy wheels.  A quick, high-raving (8.5) engine and beautiful handling.  This car has been gone over by an independent mechanic who has a class certification from Japan.  Although this car has been repainted (in the original factory yellow) this is not unusual for small Japanese vehicles.  In Japan if you cannot prove you have a space to park a larger vehicle you must purchase a smaller vehicle 1000cc or less (most often a Kei car).  99% of all of the smaller cars received from Japan have some paint rework.

•       5 speed manual

•       The top as well as all rubber components are soft, pliable, and working as they should;

•       The yellow repaint shines and is unique (more rare) for this model;

•       She has 4 excellent Dunlop tires with plenty of tread left and they are in the original equipment size (13" up front and 14" in the rear);

•       The air conditioning (yes, it has air conditioning) blows cold and has no leaks;

The Honda Beat is a rear wheel drive, mid-engined two-seat roadster kei carproduced from May 1991 to February 1996. The Beat was the last car to be approved by Soichiro Honda (the founder of Honda) before he died in 1991. The total number of cars produced was around 33,600. The design of the car originated from Pininfarina, who then sold the design plan to Honda. The Beat was one of many cars designed to take advantage of Japan's tax-efficient kei car class.

In typical Honda fashion, the Beat's engine did not utilize a turbocharger or supercharger. The 656 cc (40.0 cu in) engine was modified with the MTREC (Multi Throttle Responsive Engine Control) system, with individual throttle bodies for each of the three cylinders, to produce 64 PS (63 bhp) at 8100 rpm with an electronically limited top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph). Only a manual transmission was available.

On May 9, 2010, a parade was held in the Twin Ring Motegi circuit as a part of an annual Beat owners meeting. 569 Honda Beats participated in the parade, which is certified by Guinness World Records as the largest parade of Honda cars. The record was shown in the 2011 edition of Guinness World Records.
