1979 Porsche European Specification 930 in O'Fallon, Illinois

Vehicle Description

For sale in our Denver showroom is a 1979 Petrol Blue European Spec Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera. The car offers the original engine which has been fully rebuilt and upgraded for the 1989 Turbo upgrade. The Porsche 930 is a sports car built by Porsche between 1975 and 1989, known to the public as the 911 Turbo. It was the maker's top-of-the-range 911 model for its entire production duration and, at the time of its introduction, was the fastest production car available in Germany. Porsche began experimenting with turbocharging technology on their race cars during the late 1960s, and in 1972 began development on a turbocharged version of the 911. Porsche made its first and most significant changes to the 930 for 1978, enlarging the engine to 3.3 liters and adding an air-to-air intercooler. By cooling the pressurized air charge, the intercooler helped increase power to 300 HP(DIN); the rear 'whale tail' spoiler was re-profiled and raised slightly to make room for the intercooler. Porsche also upgraded the brakes to units similar to those used on the 917 race car. This 930 Turbo Carrera was federalized to be 50 state emission legal. A custom Catalytic Converter was made when it was federalized. The odometer reads 40,850. The engine and transmission have both been rebuilt and upgraded to handle the 1989 turbo upgrade performed by Kevin Roush, or Gas Motorsports, Upland CA. Details include: 911 SC camshafts, upgraded blow-off/bypass valve system, upgraded intercooler (Kokeln: K-29Specs), upgraded chain tensioners, B&B steel headers, and converted to 1989 Turbo specs with 950-5 (5) speed limited slip transmission, Porsche racing synchros in all five gears, (European naturally aspirated close ratio set), upgraded hydraulic clutch, upgrade power brake booster, upgraded rear sway bar carrier to accept 50-5, custom made Fuchs/BBS wheels (machined to accept BBS inner and outer rims) 10" front 12" rear, upgraded to tubular rear torsion bars, as well as upgraded front torsion bars, upgraded to adjustable front sway bars. Front camber truss stabilizer, upgraded front brakes (larger with red calipers) with Kolhman slotted rotors with active forced air system for the brakes, original 930 Turbo front brake calipers moved to rear with cross drilled rotors, two oil coolers, bolt in roll cage with removable door component, racing Momo Corse bucket seats, RS style door panels, adjustable VDO boost gauge, five-point racing harness, original spare, original jack, original tool kit plus "lollipop" for side jacking, and the owner's manual. In March 2014, the car was repainted in non-original Petrol Blue by a local professional shop.
