Nineteen forty one was a banner year at Buick. They offered 26 different body styles on six different model lines (Special-A, Special-B, Super, Century, Roadmaster and Limited), it was the most complete lineup of automobiles Buick had ever offered. Styling had improved over the interim 1940 models most significantly by the gentle streamlining of the front end. Door hinges and running boards disappeared, and the fenders were lowered. While the 1940 and '41 Buicks may initially look similar, placing them side-by-side, it becomes very clear which is which, with the 1941 cars having a more modern and muscular appearance. Also new for 1941 was the new "torpedo" styling, a fastback body that eliminated the traditional trunk hump, and instead featured a graceful, curving roofline from the windshield back to the rear bumper. Offered in both 2-door and 4-door models and on the Special and Century lines (and shared with Pontiac and Cadillac), this popular styling set the trend at General Motors for the remainder of the 1940s.

Masterpiece has to offer “Black Beauty”, a 1941 Buick Century model 61 4-door fastback survivor with 61621 Believed Original Miles. The car is a true time capsule and is about as original as can be expected, all the way down to the travel stickers and oil change stickers from the 40’s and 50’s. Black Beauty was sold new to the Luxford family in Grand Rapids in the spring of 1941 and was owned by that family until 2011. The Buick is in all original condition with some wear for a 76-year-old car that has not been restored, but well maintained. The paint and bright work still holds their shine for a 76-year-old car. There are some age spots but very minor and that is to be expected with the age of this vehicle.

When you open the door and look at the interior, it is clean and completely original, even the front and back bench seats. From the history of the car, when the car was picked up from the dealership, the dealer had factory seat covers put on the seats to preserve the quality of the fabric. The covers were removed recently and the fabric is like new.

Black Beauty is power by the straight eight Fireball 320ci 165HP with Compound Carburetion. This was rare factory dual carburetors. The Cadillac only had 150HP. The Buick starts and runs well. It will go down the highway almost effortlessly at 80 mph.

Everything is original down to the carpet and seats, except for the tires. The trunk spare may be an original. The original jack and tool kit are also intact.

This black beauty could be restored to true show quality, but would likely appreciate faster as a survivor.
