Very things are more American than a bright red Chevrolet Corvette.
First introduced in 1953, the Corvette became a household name
overnight due to its spectacular performance and stylish design.
The outer body was made out of then-revolutionary glass fiber
reinforced plastic material and the original design had a
inline-six cylinder engine, drum brakes and solid axle. Chevrolet
was very close to shelving the whole Corvette program due to the
train of thought that saw it was a failed venture for GM's entry
level brand. Three factors saved the Corvette. Legendary Russian
emigre engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, Chevrolet's first V8 engine and
the introduction of the Ford Thunderbird.
This 1962 Corvette is one of the last produced from the original C1
generation production. Featuring a gorgeous coat of Royal Red, the
paint is excellent and shows very well, as does the plentiful
chrome trim. The car is powered by a 327cid V8 engine that produces
340hp and is attached to an optional 4-speed manual transmission
driving through 3:50 rear gears. The car features a color matched
factory hardtop as well as the soft top. The interior is likewise
in excellent condition. The dash and gauges are in great shape and
everything is fully functional. The seats are free of rips or
stains and have good padding. The dash is free of cracks and has
good brightwork. The glass is intact and in good shape. The car
sits on optional aftermarket American Racing wheels with period
BFGoodrich white letter T/A tires. It will also come with the
original factory hub caps and tires.
According to the current owners who have had the car for the last
13 years, the vehicle was the recipient of a restoration and the
condition of the vehicle seems to back that up. The last year of
the solid axle Corvettes is an investment for sure, just 14,531
were made and even less with the top engine and desirable color
combination.
