Vehicle Description
2005 Kirkham 427 Cobra
VIN: KC4HSLC0389
With '60s Cobras pushing well into the seven-figure range there are
well-made alternatives that can provide the same, if not better,
driving experience without the dramatic price tag. This aluminum
bodied SC Cobra by Kirkham is one of the best of the best. It
features every performance option available from Kirkham in 2005
including: a Tremec 5-speed transmission, Salisbury type
differential, and a Ford Motorsport 427 aluminum block engine
(bored and stroked to 482 ci) making 600hp.
Aesthetically, this car is as close to an original Cobra as you can
get, with Autometer gauges, Connolly leather, Wilton wool carpets,
wood rimmed steering wheel, roll bar, outside fuel filler, side
pipes, and Halibrand style Trigo knock off alloy wheels. This
example is registered as a special construction vehicle, has been
SB 100 approved, and is smog exempt in California.
Built in 2005, it has been driven just 2,234 miles since delivery.
The aluminum body has never suffered any damage and is
indistinguishable in proportions to an original Cobra. The wheel
wells have foam inlays to protect the aluminum fenders from rocks.
The engine bay and underside are immaculate.
Mechanically the car's performance is ready to rival anything on
the road. The 600hp engine is an aluminum block Genesis casting of
the famous Ford side oiler, bored and stroked to 482 ci. A
nine-quart oil pan was added along with a Holley 850 double pumper
carburetor. The Tremec TKO 600 5-speed is mated to an aluminum
flywheel and pressure plate, which feeds power to the Kirkham
(Salisbury type) differential. A McCloud scatter shield is also
fitted.
The car weights in at just 2100 lbs, and with 600hp underfoot the
performance is staggering, to say the least. The brakes are Wilwood
4-piston calipers with vented rotors giving this car considerable
more stopping power than the original Cobra. The suspension is
finished off with state of the art Penske adjustable shocks.
Later work by Bob Slade included the Kirkham recommended front
suspension pickup point reinforcements, updated flexible exhaust
hangers, a complete suspension alignment including bump steer. In
addition he installed a Comp Cams FB 2825-10 cam and tuned the
engine.
