This Scout 80 4X4 was orignially sold to the Oregon Department of Forestry. It was used to check different areas in the state as far as the health of the trees. Later a gentleman from Ohio bought it to accompany him on trips around the US. It sat in a garage for few years before I purchased it. I took the entire vehicle apart and had it media blasted every inch to get the rust out. All the parts that we reused were coated with etch primer. The Scout had 67,000 miles on it when I purchased it.
This vehicle has been upgraded in every way. The restoration is
two and a half years old and took over a year to complete. Garage
kept the entire time. Only 1050 miles were put on since the
restoration. Here is a list of what has been done:
Mechanical - Added 4 wheel disc brakes. Power brakes. Stops with
very little pressure.
Rebuilt transmission and new clutch. New belts, hoses, alternator,
carburetor, air filter, plugs, rotor, cap, wires, and shocks.
Completely new wiring, fuse box, lights, lenses, and bulbs. New
tires and rims. It shifts great and easily. Hubs, Low Gear, High
Gear work well.
Body - This vehicle was taken apart, media blasted, and every body
panel was repaired, replaced, or fabricated. No bondo filler was
used. All new metal. New floor pans, and rear section is new. The
paint that was used is a high grade Lexus paint code. There is not
one spec of rust in the entire vehicle. And was redone in such a
way that rust will have a very difficult time trying to find its
way in any body panel or joint. The tailgate has been changed to a
sculpted look. It can be changed back if you wish. The windshield
has been raised to accommodate the higher seating position. The
original (that has been completely restored) comes with the
vehicle. New glass windshield. The doors have the hinges that are
quick release. One person can take off a door and put it back on.
Comes with the following: Hard top, Bikini Top, Roll bar and a
second windsheild that has been elongated for greater visability
and higher roof line when using the Bikini Top.
Interior - The carpet has been custom made for the drivers side,
passenger side, and rear area. We used F150 seats with covers on
them. They were chosen because the seat belt is integrated in the
seat itself. Plus they are very comfortable and safe. The windows
go up and down with no problem and the wing vents work as they
should. All new gauges and an added gas gauge for the second gas
tank has been installed. The roll bar and bikini top are a nice
addition and keep the sun off of you when you wish.
In essence, this Scout is one of the best you will ever see and
drive. During the restoration, no corners were cut. This Scout was
never going to be sold. I was going to keep this for 20 years. And
that was the mentality of this restoration.
