For Sale at Auction: 1968 Chevrolet Corvette in Monterey, California

Vehicle Description

Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder August 17th - 19th, 2017 at Russo and Steele's 17th Annual Monterey, California Auction. Please contact us for more information. Presented is a 1968 Corvette Roadster L88 Gentlemens Racer that is finished as a stunning period correct tribute with rare FIA race trim. With less than 500 miles after a frame off restoration, the car is also street legal. This fresh reconstruction wears its heritage well while incorporating updates for safety, performance, and its current street legal registration. Although registered and insured for street legal use, make no mistake, this is also a serious track car. Only the best parts and materials available were used, along with top craftsmen, to build this car close to its racing heritage and yet provide the owner with a street legal version to play with or go racing. Not a perfect original but perfect for what it is, a race touring gentlemens racer. The body, trim, and chrome are all new. The body is accident-free and smooth as glass. The new paint is base clear coat featuring modern colors of killer gray metallic and fine aluminum metallic. Accent striping is reminiscent of graphics used on many racing L88 cars in the 1960s. Four coats of clear protect the beautiful finish. All the chrome is newly redone and all lights, grill, and other exterior pieces are new as well. The frame, suspension, and steering is a mix of original Corvette and custom race fabrication. It features a full belly pan under the cockpit along with racing rear suspension arms, race half shafts, heim joints, and other features which are race adjustable. The springs are GM Racing and the new shocks are KYB gas. The steering is a quick-ratio GM, rebuilt to new specs. Front springs are GM HD race. All other components are new or rebuilt to new specifications. The Mark IV big block engine features a GM high performance 4-bolt block with forged internals, J&E pistons and shot-peened rods. The heads are new American made Patriot Freedom featuring the later style open-chamber L88 original head design - yet with more advanced design and valve train components. L88 upgrade to ZL1 specs with solid lifters, guide plates and comp 1.7 roller rockers. Holley factory upgraded 850 carb. The engine stats are: 460 cubic inches, 500+hp, compression ration 9.2 to 1, 91 octane, heads 320cc, and comp cam. The drive line features a Muncie M21 wide-ratio 4-speed, an original Hurst shifter, new GM Performance flywheel, new Centerforce dual friction clutch and pressure plate, Lakewood bell housing, custom drive shaft, and Corvette rear end machined and plumbed for a racing differential cooler. The brakes, wheels, and tires are period correct with very rare Hurst Airheart front discs and JFZ rears. Wheels are American racing 9" and 12" front and rear respectively, running period BFG Comp TA tires. The fuel system begins with a Jaz 22-gallon fuel cell with foam and sender mounted in a custom race support, plus braided stainless line and vent system. A wide style LeMans fast fill cap adds a great period look to the car. The OEM fuel pump feeds an upgraded Holley 850 sitting on a dual plane manifold. The Ignition has an old school look with modern Petronix electronic internals. The interior features adjustable aluminum Kirkay race seats, custom aluminum fabricated interior panels, frame mounted roll bar with removable side bars, factory door panels, GM tilt and telescoping power steering, Stewart Warner gauges, full floor insulation, all new rubber seals, and a high-level gentlemens racer finish. The hardtop is like new with a perfect headliner and new rubber. Headers are Hooker, with muffler inserts available to meet your personal sound level. Also included are racing door bars, window regulators and channels, plus an original L88 manifold. This is a show piece that is meant to be driven and it makes a bold statement.
