Few marques trigger the passion and loyalty that Alfa Romeo
inspires. For the dedicated Alfista, as obsessed Alfa fans are
known, nothing else matches the power, handling, and sensuous
Italian styling offered by the storied Milan manufacturer. While
just about any Alfa checks the box for the Alfista, open cars like
the 1959 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider offered here are especially
valued.
The 2000 Spider was a much-needed update on the then-dated Alfa
Romeo 1900. First introduced in 1958, the 2000 Spider featured an
entirely new body design by Carrozzeria Touring. The car is powered
by a 1,975-cc DOHC four-cylinder engine featuring two Solex
carburetors. The engine is coupled with a five-speed transmission.
The finely tuned unequal-length A-arm suspension, rigid rear axle
and stiff coil springs made for a fun to drive, sporty package. The
2000 Spider was an instant smash hit, not just with the Alfista,
and would continue in production until 1962, when it was replaced
by the Alfa 2600. The 2000 Spider ended with a total production run
of approximately 3,443 examples between 1958 and 1961.
This 2000 Spider is presented in its original color scheme of red
paint over a black interior. In 2015 the owner sourced five Borrani
wire wheels and hubs. The wheels were an option rarely sold to
owners when the car was new. The black Hartz convertible top is in
excellent condition, ready for inclement weather or top down
motoring. A two-owner example with only 44,621 miles on the
odometer at time of cataloging, this Alfa is in pristine and
immaculate condition and is ready for many more miles of driving
pleasure.
