The Challenger remains one of the most popular and collectible
muscle cars on the market today. Its enduring appeal stems not only
from handsome styling, but also from the solid performance
engineering that went into it from the outset. Most notably, the
Challenger's basic E-Body platform could accommodate the entire
Chrysler engine range by virtue of its front sub-frame that was
borrowed from the larger Charger/Coronet B-Body cars. In addition,
the use of the Charger/Coronet rear suspension layout provided a
wide rear track, accommodating the wider tires that became
available by 1970. The rest is automotive history, as the
Challenger and its competitors charged into the limelight. The
passion for this era of special machines continues unabated.
Presented in the popular Hemi Orange (code EV2) with black interior
and black R/T "performance" stripes; this exceptional example is
powered by the coveted V-code' 390 horsepower, 440 cubic inch
Magnum Six Pack V-8 engine that is paired with a A727 TorqueFlite
automatic transmission. The new-for-1970 R/T hood is a giveaway to
the car's identity with its "440 Six Pack" badging and NACA
ducts.
This is a well-documented machine that comes with its original
Broadcast sheet, a data tag code breakdown, and listing in the
Chrysler Registry. According to the registry, there were only 1,640
Dodge Challenger R/T two-door hardtops produced for the United
States with the famed 440, Six Pack engine. The appearance meets
the best of standards with chromed steel Rallye wheels, hood
tie-downs, chromed racing-type mirror, dual exhaust with chromed
exhaust tips, drip moldings, and B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A tires.
The interior features bucket seats without console, Rallye
Instrument Cluster with tachometer, wood-like trim elements; all
presented in a very tidy presentation. The engine bay also displays
a fine degree of presentation, while the trunk has the floor liner,
jack, and space-saver spare. The owner's manual is also included
with this notable Challenger R/T package.
Part of the Dodge Scat Pack of the era; the Challenger brochure
headlined, "The Six Pack. It snarls, it quivers, it leaps vast
prairies in a single bound." Get ready for a most exhilarating turn
behind the wheel in one of 1970s favorite muscle machines.
