Vehicle Description
Perhaps one of the most endeared car ever produced was the VW
Beetle. Volkswagen literally rose from the ashes of WWII with the
Volkswagen Type 1 or Beetle. The Beetle was different, simple,
reliable and fun. These core elements would prove to be important
as the VW beetle would eventually become to be the most mass
produced car of all time; surpassing the Model T in 1972 with car
number 15,007, 034 and by 1973 production of the beetle surpassed
16 million units. More amazing than the production numbers, is that
the Beetle never became boring. Through Volkswagen's commitment to
quality, the Beetle kept evolving and improving over time. The
introduction of the Super Beetle in the early 70's demonstrated
that fact as VW deviated from their tried and true torsion bar
front suspension replacing it with a coil over strut suspension
improving usable space under the bonnet, creating a longer
wheelbase and improving overall suspension and handling.
The 1968 Volkswagen Beetle offered here has just recently been
fully restored. According to the owner the 4 cylinder engine and
manual shift transmission were just rebuilt. We took the beetle for
a test drive and it performed well. It has a new carburetor. The VW
is wearing a fresh coat of red metallic over a black interior. The
blank vinyl seats are freshly re-upholstered as is the back seat.
The carpet and floor mats are new as are the black door panels. The
factory radio is functional as well. This little Beetle rides new
tires.
