Vehicle Description
Introduced in 1962 by Studebaker, the Avanti was billed as
"America's only four passenger high-performance personal car." With
a selection of GM V8 engines and a luxurious interior, the
distinctive Avanti combined safety and high-speed performance. A
year later, Studebaker closed the lines and the model was sold to
the new Avanti Motor Company and the car was rechristened the
Avanti II.
The nicest Avanti we've seen in a long time, this 1976 example has
been through an exemplary restoration. With huge amounts of
documents, booklets and paperwork, no bit of work has been left out
with this example. The restoration was started in 1995 and finished
a few years later. With receipts, photo documentation and
manuscripts, the owner indicates around $19k was spent on the
restoration. Originally painted Contessa Pewter Metallic, the color
was changed during the restoration. It even has the original window
sticker from 8/9/76. With a rebuilt engine and other fixes, the
overall mechanical condition is excellent. With bright red show
quality paint, excellent trim, nice black leather interior, updated
weather seals and more, this car is a stunner. Everything works
from the wipers, power locks and windows, climate control, interior
lighting and turn signals. Also included are documents from the
Avanti owners club as well as shop books, marketing literature and
parts catalogues.
A rebuilt 400cid Chevy small block mated to a 4-speed automatic
transmission means that parts are relatively easy to come by. A
custom wood Nardi steering wheels ties the interior together
nicely. Power steering, power locks, front disc brakes and climate
control are all factory options. In addition to the binders of
information the car also has two sets of keys. With tons of money
and time poured into this car, you'd be hard pressed to find a
nicer Avanti II. With extremely low production numbers estimated
around 156 for 1976 and a distinct exclusive style, the Avanti II
was a car that never received the distinction it deserved. Now is
your chance to own a rare and eye catching piece of history.
