Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1949 Hudson Commodore
for purchase. Hudson's were made in Detroit until 1954, when they
merged with Nash-Kelvinator to create American Motors (AMC). The
Commodore was produced from 1941 to 1952 (sans war years). The
Commodore was the largest and most luxurious Hudson model. The
Commodore is also lauded for being a creative product of Betty
Thatcher, the first female designer employed by a car manufacturer.
In 1948, the Commodore was one of the first new design cars
post-WWII. With an encircling frame, passengers lowered themselves
to enter the vehicle. This design became known as a "step-down"
separated itself from other contemporary cars. The surrounding
frame also improved safety and performance, as Hudson dominated
NASCAR frin 1951-1954. Today, the rarity of finding a Hudson
immediately turns heads with its bold sloping lines and
over-abundant amount of chrome.
This '49 Hudson Commodore is offered for sale for the first time in
over two decades when it was last purchased in Virginia. While the
bold exterior is eye-catching, the highly original and steel dash
decorative dashboard is the highlight of this classic. Purchased
from a past President of the Hudson Club 10+ years ago this was
deemed to be one of the top 3 cars in existence at the time and was
highly original. All options and features were installed from new
factory in the box components from Hudson, no aftermarket items on
this ride. The single speed rear end and original set of King Pins
are included with the sale of this car. Many other Hudson
components and parts are available for additional purchase. This
Commodore has a high-level of originality making this perfect for a
collector and just anyone who loves to cruise in something really
cool and unique. It's powered by a correct 254 inline 8-cylinder
engine and 3-speed column shift transmission with overdrive. This
car runs and drives great. The bench seats are very comfortable
with the interior upholstery in excellent condition. The 2-tone
gray & silver paint completes the classic presence with authority.
There are so many little touches to love about this car as you can
see it is the height of 1940's luxury, including the rear-window
sun shade. Please call or email for more details!
