Report, this 429 Super Cobra Jet Ram Air was built in April 1971 as
one of 556 that came with a 4-speed manual transmissions and only 1
of 2 that had the Drag Pack option with the 4:11 Detroit Locker
Rear Axle. When ordered with the Drag Pack Option the 429CJ was
transformer to the Super Cobra Jet with a Ford rated 375HP.
However, this 429SCJ has been Dyno tested at 416HP @ 5400RPM and
475 Ft-Lb of torque at 3600RPM in stock trim with 10.4 to 1
compression and pump gas. For 1972 Ford dropped the 429 from the
Mustang option list. While very similar to the 1970 Boss 429 this
1971 Mach One 429SCJ comes with a mechanical lifter camshaft to
stop valve float on the drag strip. It is a matching numbers car,
although the engine block number stampings could not be verified as
they were punched in very lightly. It has the correct 780 Holly
carburetor and Ram Air intake. It comes complete with a rarely seen
space saver spare tire and inflater bottle. A very correct car
right down to the AM/FM/8 Track tape player, center console,
electric rear window defrost, convenience gauge group and a working
clock. Freshly restored to Mustang Club of America Gold judging
specifications the goal was to restore this 429SCJ to the way it
was when it left the Ford Dealer show room in 1971. It has been
painted in the original Bright Blue Metallic (Code 6) color with
argent body, hood and spoiler accents. Complemented with the
correct Goodyear Polyglas F60x15 Raised White letter wide oval
tires and Magnum 500 wheels. This 3 year restoration started with
the chassis being sand blasted to bare metal and then given a 2
coat epoxy finish to the under body and engine compartment. All new
fuel tank, fuel lines, brakes, drive shaft, and exhaust system were
added. The engine was disassembled, inspected and re-built to stock
specifications by Richmond Engines. It has been dyno tested to
verify output and performance. The interior was re-upholstered to
the original white knitted vinyl finish with graphite accent
stripes. The seat beats were rebuilt to new condition and luster. A
correct AM/FM/ 8-Track Stereo was installed with 4 speakers. Two
Beach Boy 8-Track Tapes come with the car. Finally, the trunk is
finished with the correct BF Goodrich Space Saver spare and
inflater bottle.
