Yamaha started perfecting the two-stroke motorcycle in 1955 with
the debut of their first motorcycle, the YA-1. By 1963 the small
Japanese motorcycle manufacturer had grown to become a competitive
Isle of Man TT race team and an internationally recognized brand
known for their small but powerful two-stroke motorcycles. In 1964,
building on the success of their 250-cc two-stroke engine, Yamaha
released the upgraded YDS3. The YDS3 was the first Yamaha to offer
the autolube system, a gearbox driven self-oiling system, as well
as improved cylinder heads, an extra clutch plate, larger diameter
24mm carbs, and a stronger crankshaft and engine seals.
The YDS3 on offer has benefited from a repaint at some point in its
history and shows nicely but will require some work to make it road
worthy again. These are known as a strong and reliable two-stroke
engine and with little recommissioning would make a great touring
motorcycle or caf racer.
