Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1965 Citroen 2CV! VIN:
1738964 Type: AZ Series: A Chassis: 0002571569 Engine: 651297 1 We
purchased this lovely 2CV from a gentleman in North Carolina, who
had purchased the car from a woman in South Carolina a few years
earlier. We've been having a ton of fun with the car, routinely
taking it out for coffee runs and errands around the city. As you'd
expect of such an out-of-the-ordinary car, it turns heads
everywhere it goes. The excitement and curiosity surrounding the
car is just great; there's always pictures being taken of the car,
and we've even had people ask us if they can tag along for a lap of
the neighborhood. The car runs and drives very, very well, even
with a few passengers. There are absolutely no tendencies of
concern. This particular 2CV is a 65 "AZ A", a fairly early car,
considering these cars were built all the way through 1990.
Exterior: We aren't exactly sure when the car was last painted, but
paint shows very well. Yellow is bright and shines nicely, with
very few signs of age. There are a couple minor chips down low that
have been touched up and are only noticeable upon close inspection.
There is also some cracking in the paint on the inside bottom of
the rear wheel skirts, which is only visible with eyes at ground
level. There is no paint run, paint was done well. There is some
minor bubbling on the upper driver door, which we've provided a
close-up of. Chrome door and rocker trim is in great shape, with no
dings. Same with the chrome front grille. The body of this car is
entirely straight, there are no dings or dents whatsoever. All
lights, markers, and glass are clear and crack-free. Headlights are
Cibies. Peel-back top is in as-new shape; this car is a real blast
to drive with the top down. Windows are what we call flap-ups,
which just adds to the goofy, charming nature of the car. Interior:
We love the blue plaid interior against the bright yellow exterior.
Bench seats are in excellent shape, with no tears or stains.
Matching plaid door panels are in nice shape as well. Dark blue
carpet goes well with the rest of the interior, though there are a
couple small tears by the pedals. While this is a fairly tiny car,
the trunk is surprisingly roomy and the cabin is no problem for
somebody over 6ft tall. Odometer is functional and reads 262 miles,
true mileage is unknown. Under the Hood / Underbody: Underneath,
this car is in excellent shape. These cars are known for being
plagued with rust; luckily this one has been restored and is nice
and solid. Our resident Citroen guru tells us that the hood appears
to be original, while the fenders and skirts are likely
replacements. Aside from the slight bubbling on the upper driver
door and the browning paint cracks on the inside bottom of the
passenger rear skirt (see photos of both), there is no rust on this
car. While the 4-speed shifting pattern is pretty unique, the car
is very easy to drive and after a few minutes the shift pattern
feels natural. While this car's flat 2-cylinder engine only makes
about 25 horsepower, which is good enough for a top speed of a hair
over 50mph, that's really all you need. It's not a car you'd want
to go very fast in anyway; steer clear of the interstate and you're
all set. This car runs and drives extremely well; it starts first
pull of the starter cable, idles cool and quietly, and runs through
the gears smoothly. The car tracks straight under both acceleration
and braking. Overall, this is an interesting car with serious
charm. For more information or to discuss purchasing, please reach
