This fine car is a great representation of the Rambler
top-of-the-line Ambassador 990 convertible. Every inch of the car
was new for 1965; the company was projecting the fresh vitality of
the design with a rock-solid platform. It was the largest and
finest of the new for 1965 Ramblers; only 3,499 similar cars were
built, it is reported that as few as a tenth of this number is
accounted for.
This is an award-winning example that has been owned since June
2006 by the current owner. It was professionally restored by Harbor
Auto Restorations in 2008 with textbook results. This car is
supported with the optional 270 horsepower, 327 cubic inch V-8
engine with a four-barrel carburetor and a 9.7:1 compression ratio.
It is paired with the Flash-O-Matic three-speed automatic
transmission and a rear axle ratio of 3.15:1. The unit was billed
as having "spectacular performance with sensible economy."
The Ambassador 990 is presented in code P54A Woodside Green
Metallic with a complementary two-tone green vinyl bucket seat
interior that is represented by code T594L. Among the optional
accessories is reclining bucket seats with headrests and seven
available positions, uncommon factory air conditioning, power
steering, power brakes, power windows (front only), tinted windows,
deluxe seat belts, windshield washer, remote driver's side mirror,
deluxe spinner hubcaps, center console with locking compartment,
front bumper guards, and power convertible top. There is a matching
spare in the equally clean trunk.
The Ambassador 990 has a first-rate Antique Automobile Club of
America show record from 2008-2013 with a Junior Grand National
First Prize in 2012 and a Senior National First Prize in 2008. The
Rambler has been beautifully maintained and continues to exhibit
all of the qualities from the first-class restoration.
