Considered a "full-size sports car" by Chrysler; the 300-series
"letter cars" by this time had a performance heritage that went 10
years deep. The predecessors in the famed Chrysler letter series
were touted by the factory as "equal of Gran Tourismo automobiles
the world over." It was, without doubt, regarded as an exceptional
road machine.
Standard equipment was not short of sport-style luxury with a
between-seat console with lockable compartment and Performance
Indicator, TorqueFlite pushbutton automatic transmission, dual
exhausts, electric clock, Deluxe steering wheel, back-up lights,
glove and luggage compartment lights, windshield washer; power
steering and brakes.
A 360 cubic inch V-8 engine was standard, but this car goes into
the realm of rare with the factory optional FirePower 390
horsepower, 413 cubic inch special high performance Cross Ram with
two four-barrel carburetors. The rear end gets the power to the
ground with the Sure Grip differential with a 2.76:1 gear ratio.
The car has the Special Performance (SP) Package that along with
the vaunted engine, came with heavy-duty springs, shocks, sway bar,
and heavy-duty brakes.
Additional desirable conveniences include factory air conditioning
(also quite uncommon for a convertible of the era), padded lower
dash, tinted glass throughout, remote driver's side view mirror,
plus undercoating and an under hood pad. Also seen on the 300K is a
factory AM radio with rear speaker, whitewall tires, matching spare
with jack, interior matching top tonneau cover, power driver's
seat, and power top.
The indicated mileage is listed as less than 64,000 on this code
RR-1 Ruby Red Metallic with code M4R Red vinyl interior 300K which
is presented in a very tidy condition. The current ownership
extends back to 2012, during which time, the Chrysler has been well
looked after.
With only 625 1964 Chrysler 300K Convertibles built (plus 3,022
Hardtop Coupes), this is a most uncommon find. For Mopar power
aficionados, the optional engine is sure to garner further
attention. With this car, you've selected the best offerings of
Chrysler's personal equipment on the classic and impressive
platform.
