stabilize his company's finances, Enzo Ferrari asked Pininfarina to
design a simple and classic 250 GT coupe. After the 250 GT
Boano/Ellena, Pininfarina's Grugliasco plant expanded and now had
the capacity to produce the new 250 GT PF. It was introduced at
Milan in 1958, and 335 near-identical examples were built by 1960,
only three more than the 250 GT Lusso. As is was a tourer it was
fitted with leather trim, thick carpeting additional sound
deadening. The GT Coupe eschewed the fender vents for simple, clean
lines and a notchback look with panoramic rear window. The oval
grille was replaced by a more traditional long narrow look with
protruding headlights. Telescopic shock absorbers were also fitted
instead of the Houdailles on previous 250s, and disc brakes were
added in 1960. The 250 GT PF was powered by the famed Columbo V-12
that produced 250 horsepower and had a top speed of 141 miles per
hour. It also had a 0-62 time of under 7 seconds which was
remarkable for the time. This is the desirable Series II with
outside plugs and disc brakes. This Ferrari numbers matching 250 GT
PF was the 261st of the 355 produced and was allocated to famed New
York based Ferrari importer Luigi Chinetti and the original owner
picked it up at the Pininfarina plant in Grugliasco. It was
originally finished in Cassa Grigio Argento with chassis number
1659GT and body number PF 27857. The original owner sold the car in
1976. In 2002 the 250 GT received a respray in the original shade
of silver and red hides were used in refinishing the interior. More
recently, in 2007/10, it received comprehensive engine and chassis
work, which is also documented. In 2011 the new owner installed a
black leather interior. This is a very desirable Series II 250 GT
PF comes with documented service history from current and previous
owners (Available on request). The 250 GT has proved to be one of
the most desirable of all touring Ferrari's and it is rare find
indeed.
