Vehicle Description
This Cadillac 75 Series Limousine was designed by a pioneer in
transportation design; Harley Earl. The 75 Series Limousines had a
stately appearance and the basic design remained unchanged for
nearly a decade. Standard equipment on the 75 series consisted of
large wheel discs, fender skirts, stainless steel running boards,
and moldings on the hood, side of the car, and on the lower
belt-line.
This Cadillac was once owned by Aviation Pioneer Glenn Martin whose
company - or part of it- after a number of mergers over the years
is now known as Lockheed-Martin. (See black and white photo in
photo set to see photo of Glenn, his Mother Minta, his
driver/chauffeur, this Cadillac, and one of his airplanes in the
background.)
The exterior is in very good condition - solid and straight body
and frame, the car had one repaint in the original black color, and
only some of the chrome trim was removed to do that. The chrome is
all original and in very good condition for its age. There is
fading of the chrome in a few areas on the front and rear bumpers
as well as some of the rear light trim.
The highly original interior is very well optioned for its day. The
more that one looks at the interior, the more small, well thought
out design details are noticeable. Inside this impressive car we
find a black leather bench seat in front, power windows (including
divider window), all metal chrome trim throughout, real wood trim,
numerous storage compartments, a foot rest for rear seat
passengers, a number of dome lights, and a pair of 'jump seats'. As
far as we can tell, the trim level of this car would've been
'Imperial 7-Passenger.'
This car has a 346ci V8 that produces approximately 150 horsepower.
During World War II these engines were used to power M5 and M24
Tanks. This car has 4 wheel hydraulic brakes - with a car that
weighs in at about 4800lbs, hydraulic brakes are a welcome assist
to stopping this beautiful car.
Overall this is a very nice survivor that runs, drives, stops and
looks great! This car has a great presence where ever it is
seen.
