Tremendous investment potential

A collector’s dream!

The 113 Mercedes-Benz Platform was introduced in the summer of 1963 as the 230SL. Designed to continue the SL line from the iconic 190SL and the legendary 300SL, the new SL was designed to provide a sporty driving experience while providing an adequate level of comfort. Its iconic “Pagoda” shape was defined by the removable hardtop and aluminum boot that concealed the convertible top when not in use. The large chrome grill and three pointed star upfront called back to the previous generation of SLs while customers were enticed by the fuel injected straight six engine, excellent handling suspension and adequate brakes. The 280SL was first assembled in December 1967 and marked the third and final generation of the 113 chassis. With an upgraded 2.8 liter 170 horsepower engine the 280SL marked the 113 chassis transition from a sports roadster to a finely appointed adequately powered grand tourer, especially in the U.S. where most 280SLs received a factory 4-speed automatic transmission and air conditioning. Considered by some to be the last classic SL the 280SL has become in recent years a highly sought after automobile by both collectors and motoring enthusiasts.

The 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Roadster featured here is finished in classic and desirable Arctic White with a gorgeous red interior and both black hard and soft tops. This one owner example has been rigorously maintained over the years and is among one of the finest examples available on the market today. To come across an example such as this with its provenance from the original owner is an extremely rare find. This 280SL has been recently serviced and would be a great addition to any premier collection; we are proud to offer it to the most astute collector, investor or enthusiast who appreciates meticulous maintenance and collector ownership. Classic cars have proven to be among the most resilient and rewarding investments in recent years with the Historic Automobile Group Index (HAGI) jumping 39% in 2013 and posting gains of 395-percent over the last 10-years.
