This early 1957 “twin headlight” Montclair convertible has the special 368 cu. in. V-8 motor rated at 290 BHP mated to the Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission. The power brakes and steering make it a pleasure to drive and the factory optional side skirts and continental kit just accentuate the sleek low slung lines of the car.
Having been in one ownership for the past 22 years it was driven to local shows and events with regular maintenance performed annually. It appears to have been repainted once prior to the 1990’s but there are no signs of metal repair or replacement panels. The paint in the trunk and engine compartment also appears to be original and in very nice condition. Considering the overall condition and patina the current odometer reading of 43,552 would support this as being a very nice low mileage survivor.
According to our research the “two headlight” examples were produced to be sold is states that would not allow the four headlight cars It appears that there are far fewer of these examples then the quad headlight cars. Initially introduced in 1957, it’s out-of-this-world front fascia and space travel inspired body lines were just part of this futuristic Jetsons inspired car that also included a padded dash, push-button transmission controls and a clever combination spot light and driver side mirror.
All the electricals such as lights, horn, wipers, and power top are in perfect working order. There are a few paint blemishes and three areas in the floor boards that were repaired with fiberglass that could be easily repaired with metal.(see photo) Additionally the is a small crack in the clear back window of the soft top and stains on the underside of the top. The car drives very well and passes NH state inspection but could benefit from new rear leaf springs and tires. The current tires have good tread and no signs of dry rot but have older date codes.
The car is located in Southern New Hampshire and I would be glad to meet any interested parties at the Manchester NH airport and shuttle them to the shop to inspect the car first hand. A lift is also available on site. This nice example is being sold with a clear New Hampshire title, Bill of Sale, current inspection sticker, and temporary plate.
Fairly priced at $24,900
