For Sale: 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in Macedonia, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Clean late Chevelle with big block power. 454 cubic inch V8 with automatic transmission. Attractive color combination, very straight bodywork. Runs and drives very well. Nice original interior. A cool A-body ready to cruise with an attractive price tag!I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I prefer the look of the later Chevelles with the single headlight up front. Maybe that's why this clean 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle appeals to us so much. It's not a pedigree car or a show car, but it's a cool cruiser built by a guy who was doing it for his daughter. And that's exactly the kind of car you want to buy?the important stuff is right. He started with a very clean car?we can find no patches or other rust repair in the undercarriage and the massive quarters are laser-straight. It was originally Gulf Green, which is kind of a light green metallic, but we like the darker green that he chose when it was time to repaint it. It gives the big brute a bit of a subtle look, although the white SS stripes kind of advertise that there's big firepower under the cowl induction hood. The doors close beautifully?this car might have the best-sounding Chevelle doors we've ever heard. THUNK. Hood and trunk fit is likewise quite good, so someone invested some time and money getting it right. There are hood pins up front for a racy look, and all the chrome and stainless was shined up to really pop against the dark green paint. SS badges were installed as necessary to give it the right performance look, and all the glass and lenses are in great shape. This car can definitely hold its head high at the local cruise night. We believe the interior is a combination of original and newer components. The front seat has surely been reupholstered, but the rear seat appears to be original equipment. Factory gauges cover only the basics, so a tachometer was strapped to the steering column and a trio of auxiliary gauges were installed under the dash to monitor the big block up front. Experts will quickly note that this is a factory A/C car and the system is complete, but not operational (we have not investigated it). The dash pad is not cracked, the carpets are in surprisingly good condition, and the overall appearance of the interior suggests to us that the 51,473 miles on the odometer might very well be an accurate reading. There's also a JVC AM/FM/cassette head unit in the dash that's probably due for an upgrade, but perhaps you'll enjoy the sound of the rumbling big block even more. The headliner is in excellent condition and some of the weather seals are new, so it closes up well. There's a nicely finished trunk that includes a correct mat, a full-sized spare, and correct jack assembly. The original H-code 350 cubic inch V8 is gone, replaced by a muscular 454 cubic inch big block. Since the 454 was an option in 1972, it slots right in there just the way the factory intended, and with a coat of Chevy Orange paint, it looks right at home. There's a big 4-barrel carb on top, some chrome dress-up items, and a set of long-tube headers to bolster the torque curve. UP front, a big radiator keeps it cool, and as we mentioned all the A/C components are in place so the system could probably be made functional without a lot of work. Power steering and power disc brakes are part of the package. The exhaust system features Flowmaster-style mufflers that sound really good and terminate in correct chrome tips under the rear bumper. A 3-speed automatic transmission snaps through the gears without any hesitation, and you'll be happy to note that a lot of the brake components are brand new. Look closely and you'll find clean floors, solid rockers, and original spot welds visible on the quarters, so this car obviously lived in a favorable climate for most of its life. A rugged 12-bolt rear end houses 3.73 gears to make this car feel quite lively around town. Custom 15-inch aluminum wheels carry 235/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials with lots of life left in them.Don't pretend this is some kind of investment. There are no matching numbers here. Instead, this is a gateway to old-school fun, the kind that we used to enjoy when cars were analog and the engines were massive. The fact that it looks so good, works so well, and has so few surprises is a bonus. Just get in, turn the key, and start having fun. Isn't that what owning a vintage muscle car is all about?
