The 1971 Mustang Mach I represents an iconic era in American muscle
car history. The bold aesthetics of the Mach I made it an instant
classic among automotive enthusiasts. This handsome 1971 Mustang
left the factory as a 429 Super Cobra Jet (SCJ) Mach I and has
since been the beneficiary of a careful restoration (2008) with
mechanical upgrades. The owner has provided a Deluxe MartiWorks
Report with original build information compiled from the Ford
Database. The beautiful Bright Blue Metallic exterior was
professionally refinished and is in very good condition. It is
accented with a Matte Silver hood, pin-striping, and front/rear
spoilers. Factory Magnum 500 chrome wheels mount 15" BFGoodrich
Radial T/A tires. The interior has also been refreshed with new
blue vinyl/knit upholstery and is in outstanding condition. The
Mustang is equipped with the factory gauge package w/tach,
AM/FM/8-track sound system, tinted glass and Hurst shifter.
This Mach I was factory equipped with Ford's 429ci SCJ and optioned
with the 'Drag Pack'. From what we can determine, the original
429ci block appears to have been replaced with a 460ci block at
some point. Both engines are '385 Series' engines, but the 460
crank throws a longer stroke that outputs more torque. Factory
crankshafts in both engines are cast. The motor retains the
original high-performance 429 SCJ heads and square-bore 4V intake
manifold. The 750cfm dual-feed Holley is not the original
carburetor - the '71 429 SCJ was equipped with a 780cfm dual-feed
Holley. The engine breathes through a functional hood w/Ram-Air
scoops, cooling is provided by an HD radiator and the exhaust
system is aluminized. The top-loader 4-speed transmission transfers
torque to the correct 9" rear axle assembly housing, but the center
section appears not to be original. (Factory 'Drag Pack' gearing
was 4.10:1, but we cannot confirm the current ratio as the
differential gear tag is missing.) The chassis is equipped with
power steering, power disc/drum brakes and tubular gas shocks. The
current owner of this classic Mustang has been the curator for the
past 13 years and is ready to pass it on. This 429 SCJ is not
absolutely original, but very close and likely an overall better
performer. Come take this Hoss for a ride and hang on. ALL VEHICLES
