original factory 135 Mustang Lightweights, one of only six original
135 Lightweights to race at the 1968 "Winternationals" in Pomona,
and one of only two 135 Lightweights to reach the 1968 finals. With
two NHRA National Records, this Lightweight Mustang is perfect for

This '68 Mustang Lightweight is thought to have competed at every
Winternationals from 1968 to 1986. Highlights of its career include
being driven by legendary driver Gas Ronda as its life began in
February of 1968 at the Pomona NHRA Winternationals. It was one of
only two "CJ's" to make it to the SS/EA finals in its debut, where
Ronda lost to Dick Landy in S/N XXX050. It was purchased by Leo Roy
after the 1968 Winternationals for $1.00 who drove it to the
Division 4 Championship in 1970. It was then purchased in 1971 by
Lloyd Bray and D.G. Gillam, and again by Danny and Mary Girolomo in
1987. The current owners spent the next 16 years thoroughly
researching, locating, and purchasing correct parts to complete a
full restoration that would honor the car's 1968 heritage. It
underwent a comprehensive frame-off restoration that was completed
in 2002 by R-R Restorations with meticulous attention to detail
invested into every facet of its care. With its exceptionally clean
appearance both inside and out, its easy to see that no expense has
been spared in preserving this vehicle's original look and
luster.
This 1968 Ford Mustang Lightweight 428 Cobra Jet boasts numerous
awards and honors. It was shown at Ford's 100th Anniversary
Celebration in 2003 and it won the Award of Excellence at the
Mustang 40th Anniversary in 2004, which took place in Nashville.
Other highlights include being shown on the cover of National
Dragster on July 20th, 1984 and being featured as a centerfold in
Muscle Car Review during the Winter of 2006 in an article about the
restored Gas Ronda Cobra Jet. The historical importance of this car
to the evolution of drag racing cannot be overstated. It is
currently on loan to the Gilmore Car Museum at Hickory Corners,
Michigan (near Kalamazoo). It is on display in the hospitality

This car is most certainly one of a kind and hard to truly value as
it carries a priceless legacy. However, Don Fezell's "Daddy
Warbucks", one of the original 50 Cobra Jet Lightweights just sold
in January at the Mecum Kissimee Auction for $245,000. This car is
not only one of the same 50, but it is also one of the six to race
at the '68 Winternationals and one of the two to reach the finals.
