For Sale: 1964 Studebaker Gran Turismo in Boulder, Colorado

Vehicle Description

After 39 years I am finding a new home for my 1964 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk. Upon discovering the car, I chased the previous owner for a year, who was a long time Denver Studebaker collector... And then bought it in April 1979!

It was used as a daily driver for a few years and then restored and lightly modified from '87 to '91. It has been getting upgraded ever since. Originally painted Astra White, I changed it to a modern paint with clear coat that very closely matches the 1964 Studebaker Golden Sand color. All of the body was sand blasted, and new metal welded in where rusted. There is no rust on this Hawk!

This GT has Factory Air Conditioning, 3 Speed Overdrive, Power Steering, Radio, Climatizer, Tach, Clock, and Electric Winshield Sprayer, and Front Seat Belts, & Front Bumper Guards, Black Vinyl Interior. As well as Rear Anti Sway Bar,and Front & Rear Tinted Glass, all glass was replaced..

The Headliner was replaced and has the correct dot pattern. The Carpets were replaced with correct Stude style loop carpet with the proper patterns sewn in and new padding. I also replaced the Cowl insulation piece with a remanufactured jute backing piece.

Bolster Material on both front seats was replaced later with correct material. The Center Console is in very nice original condition. The rest of the Black Interior Material is original. The entire Back Seat is original with very minor imperfections.

When restored, it received a NOS Steering Gear.. The Front End was rebuilt with NOS King Pins and Bearings, and all of the Suspension Bushings were replaced. The Center Pin was replaced with a rebuilt earlier style Bearing type Housing. The Tie Rods were good and still are.

It has the following upgrades added: New Tinted Front & Rear Windshields with recent new gaskets, new clear side glass cut, and the correct 'bugs' or 'glass logos' etched in that look like the factory glass. Also it has a Factory Rear Anti Sway Bar with New Bushings, which greatly improves the handling, and also a correct Studebaker Power Steering setup, and NOS H.D.Rear Leaf Springs with recent new bushings.

It is lightly modified: with a rebuilt, bored out 1963 Studebaker 259 V-8 which was transplanted earlier in its life, and a matching 1963 3 Speed OD Transmission, and a rebuilt Delco Distributer (Window Type) that was used on earlier Studes as well as a WCFB 4bbl Carb. And the Starter, Alternator, and Distributor were rebuilt less than 14,000 miles ago.

The Rear Axle is a 3.73 Twin Traction with recently replaced fluid, and the proper Traction Additive Lubricant and a new Pumpkin Seal and new Pinion Speedy Sleeve and Seal.

The Frame is in excellent shape, and I recently replaced the large Crossmember with one that is excellent and very thoroughly painted.

Virtually all the Stainless has been restored and buffed, except the 1/4 window surround. The Roof Moulding Stainless is NOS. The Bumpers and Guards are Rechromed.

Also it was upgraded with a NOS Heater Fan Motor, NOS Wiper Motor, and NOS Tachometer.

Also recently: a rebuilt Carburetor, a New Fuel Pump and hoses & Filter, New Water Pump, New Radiator & Heater Hoses & a New Air Filter.

There is a very recent 4 wheel Brake job with New Brake Cylinders Relined Shoes, and cleaned and painted Hardware, and the Finned Brake Drums are excellent. I also recently rebuilt the Power Steering Control Valve, the Ram and Pump were also rebuilt earlier, and the rubber Shaft Seal on Steering Gear was replaced recently.

The Drive Shaft recently got a New Input Shaft & forward U-Joints.

The T86 3sp OD Tranny was recently rebuilt with new Seals, and leaks a very small amount. The Bumpers were Re-Chromed.  The Stainless Mouldings are all Excellent.  All body Rubber Body Seals were replaced.

I have constantly upgraded trim and parts and the car is in excellent shape!
