Vehicle Description
In 1971 Mercedes-Benz introduced the R107 platform which we know as
the SL. From 1971 to 1989, this platform was used by Mercedes-Benz
to create one of the finest series of two seat, grand touring
coupes and convertibles. The 280 SL to the 560 SL were all built on
the R107 platform.
The R107was introduced the U.S. in 1972 with the W117 4.5 liter
V-8. At first it was called a 350 SL but in 1973 it was officially
became the 450 SL. The car was a great success in America. It had
no competition in the personal luxury field which is why 2/3 of all
R107's were sold in America. It helped define Mercedes-Benz's
reputation of excellence.
The example being offered is a 1973 convertible with the hard top
available. Both the hard top and convertible are blue. The car is
Aqua Blue with tan interior with both cloth and leather fabric. It
has 88,000 miles which by Mercedes standards makes it just broken
in. It would a splendid car to show or to drive.
