summary
The second-generation of Chevrolet's C/K pickup might just be one
of the best trucks ever created. Stylish, timeless and usually
armed with plenty of power, these Chevys inspire a cult like
following and provide one of the most enjoyable ownership
experiences on the planet. This show stopping C10 is an amazing
classic that wraps a lowered suspension and thoroughly massaged
aesthetics around a modern 700R4 4-speed and 383 cubic inches of
Chevrolet muscle. Want to park a killer piece of Americana in your
garage for roughly HALF the price of a ground-up build? Check out
this slick Action Line Chevy!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Benefitting from a ground-up restoration that was completed in
2015, this polished pick-up was sent to Doug Krashner Auto Body of
Clover, South Carolina where it was stripped, fitted with fresh
metal, decked in PPG Deep Atlantic Blue base and sealed in pearl
clear. Despite its massaged drivetrain, the truck's trim and
ornamentation remain largely as the General specified. At the front
its body, a streamlined grille hangs a brilliant blue bowtie
between a polished bumper, amber parking lamps and modern halogen
headlights. At the sides of that grille, a monochromatic profile
centers chrome door handles and polished bowtie mirrors between
bold badging and bright marker lamps. At the top of that profile,
chip-free glass reflects polished wipers, satin cowl screens and a
factory antenna. Behind that greenhouse, fresh stainless skid
strips secure requisite wood planks around a relocated fuel filler.
And at the back of that bed, a smooth tailgate centers hidden
latches above bright taillights and a second polished bumper.
ENGINE
Pop the hood and you'll find 383 cubic inches of spry Chevy small
block that was professionally assembled by A&K Rebuilders of
Clover, South Carolina. Revs are created when a Billet Specialties
air cleaner floats wind in to an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake, by
way of a 750cfm Quick Fuel carburetor. At the perimeter of that
plane, Billet Specialties valve covers hang polished breathers over
195cc Air Flow Research heads, which feed long Hedman Husler
Hedders. Behind those breathers, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor
sequences spark between an MSD Blaster 2 coil, MSD 6AL-2 ignition
and loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Those wires spark a
3.75-inch stroke, which begins at an Eagle forged crank, progresses
to Eagle H-beam rods and ends with quality Mahle pistons. Between
those pistons, a custom Comp solid roller cam bumps solid roller
lifters and fluid roller rockers. At the front of those arms,
Billet Specialties Tru Trac components spin polished pulleys in
front of a polished AC compressor, an Edelbrock water pump and a
polished Powermaster alternator. And in front of those ancillaries,
a Be Cool radiator plays well with a satin support and dual SPAL
puller fans. Despite being a thoroughly massaged piece, the 4-bolt
mill looks right at home in the truck's body-matched engine
compartment. And details like an Aeromotive regulator, a
liquid-filled Marshall pressure gauge and an Optima gel cell
battery mix first-rate looks with first-rate functionality.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Behind that trusty small block, a 2,500 RPM stall kicks a
custom-built 700R4 4-speed, which spins an aluminum Carolina
Driveline driveshaft. That 3.5-inch tube twists power to an
aluminum-capped Drivetrain Specialties Dana 60, which centers an
Eaton Truetrac differential on 3.73 gears, 35-spline axles, ARP
studs and big Ford hubs. Everything rolls on a factory-style
suspension, which was fully rebuilt to include drop spindles,
lowering springs and QA-1 adjustable shocks. Modern power steering
makes parking easy and turns a cinch. Stops are provided by an SSBC
booster, which jolts a Wilwood proportioning valve, two 4-piston
SSBC calipers and two 3-piston SSBC calipers to clamp 14-inch
drilled and slotted rotors. The aforementioned headers feed fresh,
2.5-inch pipes, which employ bold Flowmaster mufflers and bright
stainless tips. And power meets the pavement through hot Billet
Specialties Vintecs, which twist 255/50R17 Nitto NT450 Extreme
Performance radials in front of 275/50R17 Nitto NT450 Extreme
Performance radials.
INTERIOR
When you pop this stepside's doors you'll find a sweet Black
Houndstooth cockpit that's been upgraded in all the right places.
Top dead center, a color-keyed dash hangs Classic Auto Air
conditioning and Custom Autosound audio beside vintage-look Classic
Instruments telemetry. In front of that dash, a broad bench seat
rides lowered tracks. In front of the driver, a stylish Billet
Specialties steering wheel laps a tilting Flaming River column. And
first-class detailing abounds, from the truck's Dashtop Highliner
headliner to its modified door panels and 1-piece power
windows.
