1966 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster For Sale- 427/425hp, NCRS Top
Flight Award Winner LMCis very proud to offer for sale this 1966
Chevrolet Corvette Roadster 427/425hp The introduction of the Sting
Ray body style caused a sensation that would be grossly
understating its impact on the North American sports car market.
Due to popular demand the St Louis factory hired a second shift but
still could not build cars fast enough to meet dealer orders.
Beneath the skin was an all-new ladder-frame chassis with
independent rear suspension, the adoption of which enabled the
center of gravity to be significantly lowered, improving both road
holding and ride. The "Big Block" Models debuted that year and came
with a special bubble hood to accommodate the stronger horsepower
engines and distinguished the cars from the 327's. Corvette owners
who selected the new $312.85 L72 427 Turbo Jet engine option were
confused by a factory recall in late 65 for an "engine
modification". The application of a new air filter sticker that
read "Turbo Jet 425 HP." - in place of the "Turbo Jet 450 HP"
helped GM's anti-racing faction concerned the 450 horsepower in a
3,300 pound car was way over the top and it worked to calm the
insurance industry. On a dyno, it would still produce the same 450
horses at 6400 RPM however with the new reading at 5600 the engine
produced only 425 horsepower. This 1966 Ermine White Corvette
convertible will provide the next owner with the range of
excitement as the Chevrolet advertisement proudly stated, It's an
experience: to look at, to sit in, to drive'! This very desirable
drop top Corvette was sold new at John Geer Chevrolet in Sacramento
California to its lucky first caretaker. Under the hood is a
Number's Matching restoration engine L72 427/425 HP backed by a
Muncie 4 speed transmission. The factory Ermine White exterior is
in beautiful condition. Inside, the Red leather interior is in very
nicely restored condition and provides the driver a wonderful
cockpit with a full array of gauges along with the convenience of
an AM/FM Radio. The distinctive stance of the Sting Ray is
unmistakable as it sits on the optional cast aluminum Knock-off
Wheels mounted on modern radial tires. Adding to the stunning
exterior look of this Corvette is the very desirable Side-Mounted
Exhaust System providing the bold, unique look of the classic
Corvette while delivering the impressive roar of the Big Block
Horses. Other desirable factory options include Power Steering,
Power Windows, Power Antenna, teak steering wheel and Hardtop and
Soft Top. After restoration the car was put to the test at NCRS and
received a Second Flight first time out. Items would be corrected
and shown again with NCRS and this time it would achieve its Top
Flight award. This '66 Sting Ray is turnkey ready to attack any
style of road. This is a Corvette meant to be driven and is
certainly ready to provide many years of thrills and enjoyment. It
is very hard to argue with the attraction of the big block
Corvette. There is nothing subtle about these extremely powerful
and loud cars making the 427 big block Corvette is one of the most
desired and avidly sought of all collector cars. Additional
