Vehicle Description
We are pleased to offer this rare and well-preserved 1959
Mercedes-Benz 220S Coupe. The 220S was built on the W180 chassis,
preceding the 220a and started production in 1956. The four-year
production ended in 1959 and production numbers as follows: 55,279
sedans, 2,178 convertibles, and just 1,251 coupes. This is a
surviving last-year example - one of 1,251 ever made.
This car was purchased new through Don Massey Cadillac of Plymouth,
Michigan. Mr. Massey, who died in 2011, was known as the Cadillac
King and his dealer badge is still proudly displayed on the trunk.
The car has always remained in Michigan and a local Grand Rapids
family purchased the car in 1998 where it has mainly been used as a
parade car, which fits the bill as the bodylines on this coupe are
absolutely stunning. The car was restored in the late 90's right
before the family purchased the car and has been kept as original
as possible. It is finished in a beautiful red paint over a black
leather interior with new chrome and wood trim. The car is powered
by the original 2.2L/120hp Inline 6-Cylinder mated to a 4-speed
column-shifted transmission with rear-wheel drive. It also has
power steering, air conditioning, and the 32k miles on the clock in
believed to be original. All gauges function as they should.
With limited production duration and units, this car is a great
investment at the price offered here. Values on these vehicles
continue to rise and you can actually enjoy it on the open road. Be
sure to check out over 100 photos and video of the vehicle running
on our website. Call or e-mail if interested. Thank you for
looking.
