present this 1991 Mercedes 300SL! We are selling this lovely 91
R129 300SL on behalf of the family of the gentleman who owned it
since new, who recently passed. The car is unmodified, adult-owned,
and will come with full documentation from new, including the
original $81,055 window sticker from Arenson Motors of Center
Point, Iowa. That's $145,500 today! The car had an inspection and
subsequent servicing in mid-2015, and is ready to be enjoyed by its
next owner. Exterior: First off, paint. Black paint is original,
with the exception of a resprayed front right fender (confirmed
with an elcometer) and shows very nicely. We really like the
two-tone black/grey color scheme on these cars, particularly over
the beige leather interior. There are a couple very minor chips
scattered about, as would be consistent with a car with 71k miles,
as well as a couple spots on the hood where the clear coat is
showing its age. However there are no significant scratches. The
body is in nice shape, though there is a ding on the front lip of
the driver's side of the hood, a couple dings in the plastic front
grille, as well as a couple very light door dings on the driver
door. All glass is clear and crack free. Factory hardtop is in
excellent shape and is easily removable. Interior: Creme Beige
leather looks great, and is far less common than the black leather
so many of these cars were optioned with. This particular car was
optioned with an orthopedic driver's seatback, as well as seat
heaters, and is extremely comfortable and supportive. The interior
is nice and ergonomic, dogleg 5-speed gear lever is exactly where
you'd want it to be. There is little wear in the interior; there
are no tears or scuffs, though the shift boot shows its age a bit,
and there is some discoloring on the center console where your
elbow would rest. Both front seats are in nice shape, with just
light, regular wear. All lights and signals are functional inside
and out, as are powered seats, seat heaters, mirrors, and locks.
R134a air conditioning does kick on, but the blower motor is not
functioning, so air does not blow out with any force. Original head
unit is in place, though not currently functional. Speakers,
however, are good. Under the Hood / Underbody: The car's 3.0L DOHC
24-valve 6-cylinder suits the car nicely. The car doesn't feel
quite like a straight-line weapon like the 500SL and 600SL of the
same vintage, rather, it feels well balanced and light on its feet.
With that said, the car is plenty quick, and the manual
transmission allows you to wind it out and get the sweet, subtle
exhaust note. Suspension feels great; this car has no problem
hammering through pothole-ridden streets and over speedbumps. The c
