A one-year-only model, for 1970 the 429 Cobra Jet was a 370hp powerhouse, but still with hydraulic lifters and easy to live with. Mated to the factory close-ratio 4-speed with Hurst shifter and 3:50 rear end made this car a very exciting combination. Marti report shows it was assembled and originally sold in California and managed to live a trauma-free life.
Restored by Ford gurus Vangard Motors in Michigan a few years ago, the car has been a private collection centerpiece since. It received a total top-to-bottom restoration and now drives like a new car again. Other original factory options included power steering & brakes, ribbon tach and AM-FM radio plus chrome styled wheels and rear window louvers. Final fettling included a new correct Holley 4-barrel and rebuilt original dual-point distributor. The car runs, shifts and drives every bit as great as it looks.
Check the current Hagerty Price Guide and you’ll see this car valued at well over $60,000, but we all know price guides don’t buy cars. Real-world money is ten grand under that, and that’s where we have reduced the car to for a quick pre-summer sale!
