Vehicle Description
The popularity of "Smokey and the Bandit" meant everyone was trying
to get their hands on a black-on-black T/A. But when you go for one
that has been given a superior restoration, including performance
rebuild of the V8, you can truly run hard from Atlanta to Texarkana
in this slick black 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.
As a real-deal Y84 Special Edition T/A, this one nails the Bandit
look in every way that matters. You can tell there was plenty of
time and money invested in a professional respray so that the
modern clearcoat helps it earn its Starlight Black name. Plus, the
iconic hood bird looks so bold that it's to be feared, and all the
lettering on every side is crisp and clear against the midnight
paintjob. Matching this gold accent package are of course, the
legendary snowflake 15-inch alloys.
"Black is beautiful," is the first thing Burt Reynolds said when he
saw his Trans Am in the Bandit sequel, and this interior follows
that line perfectly. The high back vinyl bucket seats look factory
fresh, and they have the kind of all-day comfort that would keep
you happy bootlegging beer all across the South. The carpets, door
panels, center console, and every other key dark piece of this car
have all been expertly preserved or replaced so this T/A retains
its full dark luster. But this Trans Am doesn't just feel like
midnight inside. Just like the exterior trim, there are plenty of
bright spots. The driver gets to sit behind factory the sports
steering wheel with the gold three-spoke design. And beyond that is
the machined aluminum dash that came on these upper-class Trans
Ams. You'll notice this has all the correct gauges, right down to
the clock/tach combo. So this is the right kind of performance
presentation to get your heart racing the moment you turn the
key.
Under the hood is the original numbers-matching 403 cubic-inch V8.
It has an authentic appearance right down to the blue block and
bold factory shaker hood. But this correct presentation hides this
coupe's real secret. The V8 was fully rebuilt a few hundred miles
ago, and that involved a ton of new components. It includes
pistons, Comp Cams mild camshaft, bearings, alternator, Champion
aluminum radiator, rebuilt original four-barrel carburetor, and
much more. That means this V8 is not only more powerful than
before, but it also has the kind of reliability you love to have if
you drive your classics. The upgrades also add more bass to the
dual exhaust as you hustle down the road. The Trans Am has a
reputation for not only being quick, but also as one of the best
all-around handling sports cars of its day. You'll see in included
build sheet that this one comes with some great features, including
the Positraction rear end and front & rear stabilizer bars. Plus,
this one has long-haul comfort, thanks to a three-speed automatic
transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes.
Take some time going over the maintenance records, restoration
receipts, restoration photos, and the aforementioned build sheet.
It will show you a classic T/A that was ordered with all the right
features, and better still, all the ones you love have either been
preserved or enhanced. That's why we know this Trans Am like is a
hot commodity. Call now!!
