For Sale at Auction: 1974 Jaguar XKE in Newport Beach, California

Vehicle Description

Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder June 2nd - 4th, 2017 at Russo and Steele\'s 5th Annual Newport Beach California Auction. Please contact us for more information. \r\n\r\nAfter Jaguar\'s brilliant XKE, alternatively known as the E-Type, debuted at Geneva in March 1961, few onlookers foresaw the remarkable ability of its basic design to keep pace with the rapidly changing demands of the marketplace and ever-tightening government regulations, particularly in the crucial North American export market. By 1971, the beloved E-Type had matured into a true GT machine with the debut of the V-12-powered Series III cars, which were offered through 1974. \r\n \r\nMost visibly, the Series III cars featured a larger bonnet bulge, larger flared wheel openings, a slightly wider track, a revised grille, and updated bumpers. The convertible now rode on the longer 105-inch wheelbase and comfort greatly improved with longer doors and sills, and the length and depth of the floor pan increased. A large horizontal scoop was added to the underside of the bonnet for improved cooling. The interior was entirely new in the Series III V-12, including the seats and door panels. The center console was now vacuum-formed with a simulated leather finish and a smaller dished and leather-rimmed steering wheel was fitted.\r\n \r\nThe E-Type went out with a bang in the United States, with Joe Huffaker\'s Huffaker Racing campaigning an E-Type racer on the west coast and Bob Tullius\' Group 44 on the east coast during 1974 and 1975, culminating in Group 44\'s SCCA Manufacturer\'s Championship victory with its iconic green and white E-Type roadster in 1975. \r\n \r\nRoad versions were very well equipped with power brakes and steering, a 272 hp V-12 and a choice of automatic or fully synchronized manual gearboxes. These final-series cars are very capable and refined Grand Touring machines, while retaining the sensuous lines of their predecessors. However, many more revisions were only apparent with closer inspection and some time spent behind the wheel. Today, they rightly continue to captivate legions of collectors and Jaguar enthusiasts as the last and most highly developed examples of the breed.\r\n \r\nAn outstanding offering at No Reserve, this final-year XKE Series III Roadster is now offered from sole ownership from new and it benefits from many years of garage storage and sparing enjoyment. Finished in Yellow paint over Tan upholstery, it is equipped with a convertible top that was fitted 10 years ago. An outstanding one-owner XKE Series III Roadster from the last model year, it is a true sporting icon and a highly desirable example of a hands-down collector favorite.
