II wheels, and host of other features, this is one very special
drop top! Numbers matching engine & transmission, both fully
rebuilt during professional 2012 rotisserie, body-off restoration!
Just a gorgeous, highly detailedcar! With the muscle car era
quickly coming to an end due to continued pressure from federal
legislature to reduce vehicle emissions and introduce unleaded
fuel, many power hungry automobile enthusiasts find the 1971 model
year to be the final page in history for potent, carbureted
horsepower. At Pontiac, they introduced a new body for their famous
GTO that included wire mesh grills, horizontal bumper bars, more
closely spaced headlights, slightly longer wheelbase, and a new
hood with scoops relocated to the leading edge! Production for the
1971 GTO was approximately only 25% of the year prior making them
exceptionally rare, and convertibles numbered only 678 vehicles! We
are excited to offer this 1971 GTO Convertible fitted with its
numbers matching 400ci V8 YS-coded V8 producing 300 horsepower and
Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission with
Safe-T-Track 3.55 rear axle. Options include factory air
conditioning, power disc brakes, power steering, power convertible
top & windows, AM/FM/8-track radio, center console, 15" Rally II
wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires, all Soft-Ray tinted
glass, driver's remote mirror, hood mounted tachometer, Formula
style steering wheel, and Ride & Handling package. This
earlyDecember 1970 production unit was originally delivered
through Lester Goodson Pontiac located in Houston, Texas. It later
made its way to California, before finally landing in Boca Raton,
Florida over the past several years. It was freshly restored by PPD
Restorations based in Fort Lauderdale in full body off, rotisserie
fashion in 2012. Nothing was left untouched with nearly every
component rebuilt, restored, or replaced for new. The exterior body
was beautifully prepared and coated with a superb application of
Lucerne Blue base coat/ clear coat. The undercarriage is equally
presented with smooth floor pans & frame, all new gas tank & lines,
all new body bushings, fresh suspension components, all new 2.5"
exhaust with Pypes mufflers & quad tips, new braking system &
lines, all beautiful detailed for show purposes with proper
inspection marking & stickers visible throughout. The top side
received similar attention to detail with all new weather
stripping, trim, chrome, new convertible top with glass back window
& boot cover, T3 headlamps, all new interior carpet, seat cushions
& upholstery, door panels, dash pad, sun visors, new windshield &
seal, all new power window equipment & switches, refinished Rally
II wheels with new center caps & trim rings, and a gorgeous,
show-worthy under hood presentation! Make no mistake, it is a
vehicle ready to be enjoyed and driven! Everything on the car is
fully functional with exception to the original dash cluster
temperature gauge. It is bypassed for small Equus temp unit hidden
nicely in driver view under the left side dash. Finding an
original, rust-free and unmolested 1971 GTO Convertible is no easy
task! This example represents one of 508 equipped with the popular
and very faithful 400ci V8/ Automatic combination. With the high
dollar restoration already completed, and the host of factory
available equipment it possesses, you can be assured this is likely
one of very few like it! It's a remarkable car that will no doubt
make the next lucky owner proud to show off in their garage or any
Pontiac gathering. Please call with questions or schedule a chance
to review it in person.
