This exceptionally well finished GTX is presented as original in
Top Banana Yellow, black canopy vinyl roof and white interior. The
paint finish retains its high level appearance since restoration,
reflecting the car's role as a museum display car. The car
benefitted from nearly two decades of dry indoor storage prior to
becoming the recipient of a full rotisserie restoration carried out
by noted specialist Apex Automotive. The restoration primarily
utilized parts that were original to the car, and NOS factory parts
where replacement was required. The result is a stunningly finished
numbers matching GTX.
Exterior Condition
The use of original body panels and structure resulted in an
outstanding fit and finish of the GTX. Presentation is impeccable
and virtually without fault. Original Top Banana Yellow with
optional black canopy vinyl top is a rare color and style
combination, and the finish is as new or better. Brightwork and
trim follow suit to accomplish a top quality and significant, rare
car.
Engine Bay Condition
The GTX engine bay and drivetrain are impeccably finished and
detailed as new or better, with all original components present and
working. The rare 440 Six Pack option and numbers matching
automatic transmission are original to the car since new. All
ancillaries show excellent finish and correct presentation. This
car shows a very accurate restoration of a rarely optioned GTX
drivetrain.
Interior Condition
Restored to original white, with center floor shift console, the
GTX retains much of its freshly restored appearance, showing little
use. The car's well preserved original condition allowed for
reinstalling its original dash and top pad during the restoration.
Since completion, the car has been primarily used as a show and
museum display car, and the interior reflects the light use. Under
scrutiny, very minor and correctible detractions are visible, but
in whole, the GTX interior is as new.
Chassis and Undercarriage Condition
Chassis and undercarriage are still as restored to new condition,
with a clean and well detailed appearance. All components are
restored to factory new or better. There is no road use evident and
no deterioration from exposure, supported by the car's care and
museum display role since restoration.
Collectability
Marking the first year design featuring rounded sculpted fenders
and a high tail, with aviation inspired nose treatment, 1971 was
also the last year for the GTX model as a stand alone for Plymouth.
It marked the end of the era of big block muscle for the marque, as
the Mopar big block engines would take a bow at the end of the
model year. Only 73 buyers would drive away from showrooms with an
automatic 440 Six Pack GTX. The combination results in a highly
desirable collectible today, a very rare example of the last in the
line and the well accomplished restoration using many original
components raises the desirability of this particular GTX. Original
options on this GTX include 440 Six Pack, console floor shift,
heavy duty automatic transmission, Canopy roof, front and rear
spoilers, AM radio with 8-Track player, right side door mirror,
dual exhaust and hood tie down pins.
Documentation includes previous title registration documents, work
receipts during current ownership, completed work lists under
current ownership, extensive ownership history notes to 1999 prior
to full restoration being performed, factory broadcast sheet.
