Vehicle Description
The Ford Mustang along with the Falcon in which the very first
Mustangs received the same power plant was slotted into the compact
car arena and was the designed and built under direct command of
Lee Iacocca.
The Mustangs styling with its longer hood and short deck lid proved
to be an instant success and brought an onslaught of competition.
The first generation from 1964-1973 offered three different body
styles; the hard-top, convertible and later the first year was the
fast back which was extremely popular and sold very well. As the
Mustang gained popularity, Ford offered different engine options
and packages that could be purchased.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this absolutely beautiful
1965 Mustang Fastback 2+2 for your consideration. This car is the
result of a 3 year rotisserie nut and bolt restoration with 975
documented hours that were poured into this build. The story starts
with a road trip to Rockford, Illinois in 2012 where the car was
purchased from. It was then brought back to Michigan where it was
stripped down and sandblasted. The floor pans and frame rails were
replaced, along with the trunk pan. The cutting and re-fitting was
done very precisely. The Mustang was given coats of primer and then
the painting process was started while on the rotisserie. The
underside of this car looks as immaculate as the top side. The
bottom of the car was painted semi-gloss in single stage. The
inside and outside were painted in Tahoe Turquoise.
The engine was a 289 block out of a 1968 Bronco. The engine was
completely rebuilt, and with the sale of the car comes a very
detailed list of components that were used. It has a compression
ratio of 9.89:1 with a bore of 4.030" and stroke of 2.870". The
engine puts out roughly 400 horsepower and the rev limiter is still
set at factory setting of 5500 RPM but the valve train is capable
of 6800 RPM. The crank is a stock .010"/.010" thrust .010" with the
balancing done by Performance Engineering. It features a Edelbrock
performer air gap intake. It features Air Flow Research 165
Renegade heads. The fuel is fed into a 4 barrel Holley Avenger 670
CFM carburetor. The Mustang breathes through Flowmaster series 40
mufflers with 2 " pipes. The engine is mated to a 4 speed
toploader Tremec transmission. Power is transferred through a
custom driveshaft build by D&R Driveline and fed to the Ford 9"
differential.
The Mustang has Custom Autosound MS-SBR slider radio with
USB/IPOD/AUX with pioneer speakers, with the IPOD and phone hook-up
hid in the glovebox. The car rides on Cragar wheels with BF
Goodrich tires mounted on. All the glass was replaced with slightly
tinted glass. The seats are out of a 1969-70 Mach 1 and are
completely re-done with new foam and material. This car is in
immaculate shape and a must have.
