Vehicle Description
It's hard not to like this 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. After
all, it has a beautiful fastback design, and one of the most iconic
factory-correct color packages ever. But what will really get your
enthusiast heart beating is the original numbers-matching big 455
V8 under the hood.
1974 was the Trans Am's fifth anniversary, and so it's great to see
this coupe in its factory-correct and ionic colors. After all, the
original was born in Cameo White with blue accents. When it's
combined with the deep chin spoiler, shaker hood, air extractors on
the front fenders, and a ducktail spoiler, the impression is
full-on aggressive. And of course, the legendary hood bird is
leading the way. The wide front grilles, the flared fenders, and
all the other little details that make these cars special also
combine to make it one of the most feared, and recognizable,
predators on the street in the 1970s. There's not much room for
brightwork during this era, and so the renowned Rally II wheels are
great standouts.
The iconic colors continue inside where the white vinyl seats
handsomely sit in a deep blue sea of the carpeting, side panels,
seatbelts, dash, and center console. Beyond the plushness of the
seats, this one comes with comfort features such as power locks,
tilt wheel, and provisions for air conditioning. And while you'll
love the way the original AM/FM 8-track radio looks in the dash,
the real tunes come from a modern AM/FM/CD stereo w/aux input
hidden in the glovebox. Full instrumentation was standard on Trans
Ams, including the large tach and speedo. The dials look great set
in the iconic and aggressive machine-turned instrument panel. Ahead
of that the driver gets the three-spoke sports steering wheel that
is an icon all on its own, too.
The 455 cubic-inch V8 under the hood fills the engine bay with
American muscle, and everyone gets drawn in by the shaker-style Ram
Air cover. But more than just look great, you'll love showing this
off because it's the original numbers-matching V8, and it look
quite authentic right down to the blue block and decals on the
valve covers. You can also tell this monster motor received good
care over the years, including a newer alternator. It results in a
car that fires up nicely, breaths deeply through a four-barrel
carb, and makes a ferocious growl out of the newer stainless dual
exhaust. You'll love this package on the road, as a tip of the
throttle will feel like diving into a well of bottomless torque.
Pontiac's combination of performance and luxury was hard to beat,
so this car includes nice cruising extras like the TH400
three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc
brakes.
You get to verify all the feature you love on this coupe with the
reproduction window sticker. While you're checking that out, you'll
also note that this one was sold only a couple of hours from our
showroom. It's this kind of history mixed with muscle machine
prowess that makes this Trans Am an irresistible buy. So don't miss
