1967 Shelby Mustang tribute GT 500-E Eleanor
Purchased January 25, 2010 at the Russo and Steele Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona
I used to have a 67 Mustang 390 fastback in highschool. This car represents to me the best of the best and is also a famous car from the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds with Nicholas Cage. This was better than any car I could purchase from a manufacturer, and I could personalize the customizing.
When I purchased the car, it already came with a great history. See Modified Mustangs and Fords article, and check out MustangOnlyOne.com This car was an original GT S-code big block car. Pete Santini, of Santini Auto Body (aired in Overhaulin show), did the all-steel body. Pete took 18 months at a cost of $30k to complete the rotisserie, media-blast, fabrication, molds, and paint. This was the first seamless Body Eleanor, making it stand above the other Eleanor clones. Kevin Priest, of Hi-Tech German, put together the drive train. The engine was special ordered from Ford Racing as a GT-40 mill will aluminum heads, balanced and blueprinted as a stroked 351 to a 392 CID. It has forged pistons, roller cam lifters, and came with a Holley 850 carburetor, a Be Cool radiator with double fans. Ford racing makes a crate motor; model #: M-6007-C392RT, which is 430 HP with 450 foot pounds of torque, which I believe this engine to be. There was also a 175 HP NOS system, bringing the HP over 600! (previous owner claims 650 HP). It has a C-6 automatic transmission, and the front suspension is a Custom & Rod Motor rack and pinion. The rear end is a heavy duty 9 Currie 3.73:1. Shocks coil over front and rear, with disc brakes all around. The interior was mostly original, except for the Signature on the glove box, the instrument cluster upgrade to high performance 160MPH, and the Shelby steering wheel. The wheels are 17x10 S/C PE Engineering with Shelby Cobra Snake Spinners. The previous owner, Art, had completed all of his work on her in December of 2006.
I bought Eleanor in January of 2010, and sent her to The Mustang Shop, owned by Jon Dinger in Chandler, Arizona. She was there for two years as I kept making changes.
Modifications that were done at The Mustang Shop
Additional work done by Super Rides, by Jordan in Escondido, CA:
I will be a car nut for the rest of my life. I have had six collector cars to date, and now have reduced that to my two favorites: Eleanor, and my 69 Camaro RSSS with a 502 crate motor, also very well built. Both cars have won many awards. Eleanor won the first show that I took her to in Escondido, Cruisin Grand, in July of 2012. She was also invited to an event in Escondido called Immortalized Then and Now in August of 2012, one of 22 cars selected for the event.
I have sacrificed many hours and dollars to get both of these cars completely ready for long road rallies. I have spent well over $50k on additions and improvements to Eleanor!! Nearly that on the Camaro as well!
Both cars look like trailer queen, yet dont let their looks deceive you. They are more than road-ready!! I have taken the Camaro on a few rallies and plan to do the same with Eleanor. As of today, I have not yet received any offers on either car, but as they say everything is for sale at the right price, for the right person!
