Vehicle Description
Offered here is extremely rare and well-preserved third generation
Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Convertible. American Sunroof (ASC),
licensed by Chevrolet to build the 1987 Camaro Convertible, also
built three 1986 Trans Am Convertibles as a design exercise. This
example is believed to be one of the three. We were skeptical as
well but did our research and could not find another '86 TA
Convertible for sale on the market. Feel free to prove us wrong.
Nevertheless, it is a rare bird.
The car is finished in factory code 74 Flame Red Metallic paint
over a factory code 82C9 Medium Gray Pallex Cloth interior with a
black folding soft-top. The numbers matching factory powerplant is
the LB9 Tuned Port Injection 5.0L V8 engine mated to the original
automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive. Other noteworthy
features include WS6 suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, factory
optioned sway bars, dual exhaust tips, original snowflake wheels,
power windows, power locks, power latching trunk, original radio,
and air conditioning. It also comes with floor mats, original keys,
jack, and PHS documents. The car runs and drives well, with some
beautiful exhaust notes (see video).
On July 7, 1986, the owner of ETM Inc. of Grand Ledge, Michigan
purchased the car new from Davis Pontiac-Buick-GMC of neighboring
Charlotte, MI. Then on November 13, 1992, Joseph W. Tierney of
Haslett, MI purchased the car with 101,364 miles. Since 1992, just
12,000 miles have been added. The car has always been stored
indoors and has been mechanically gone through. It is turn key
ready and ready for a new garage.
Again, this is a rare Firebird TA. We encourage you to find another
one in this condition with all ownership history, let alone a
convertible. They are just unheard of. Call or e-mail for more
information, or if you'd like to make a reasonable offer. Thank you
for looking.
