Here is one of my favorite street rod platforms. This 1928 Model
A Tudor Sedan combines classic Ford lines with a perfect stance to
make a fantastic looking ride. Throw in things like a small block
V8, stronger frame, better suspension, disc brakes - now you've got
a hot rod you can really enjoy.
This frame-off build started with a steel Model A body. The
battered fenders were replaced with fiberglass, and the whole car
was painted a sleek grey metallic. The car then received a new
black vinyl top and some subtle pinstriping. Underneath is a boxed
frame along with two saddle fuel tanks. The suspension was redone
with a Mustang II setup in front and 4-link in back. There are
adjustable coilovers all around, making it easy to dial in the
perfect rake. The aluminum wheels with Ford spinner caps look right
at home.
The drivetrain uses a Chevy 350ci engine. This is a reliable street
motor built with a 3970010 block and 333882 heads, and has plenty
of power for this light car. It is topped by an Edelbrock aluminum
intake manifold and carburetor with electric choke. The ceramic
coated headers look gorgeous and blend perfectly with the paint
scheme. The transmission is a TH350 automatic with a B&M
ratchet shifter, while out back is a Ford 8" rear end. Also note
the power front disc brakes and third brake light.
The custom interior is a two-tone grey that is also a nice match
for the paint. Everything was done; seats, dash, door panels,
headliner, and carpet. Front seat belts were added as well. There
is a full set of VDO gauges, a windshield wiper, horn, parking
brake, turn signals, and Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo. All windows roll
up and down and the tilt-out windshield operates properly. A tilt
steering column was installed and rotated for a swing-away action,
making it much very easy to get in and out.
As you might expect, this Model A gets a steady stream of waves,
honks, and thumbs-up wherever it goes. It is a great looking street
rod that is complete and ready to go when you are.
