In order to honor the memory of his late son and continue his
developmental work on a new V-6 engine, Enzo Ferrari directed
Vittorio Jano to finish Dino's project. The Dino was not only
Ferrari's first mid-engine production car, but also marked the
debut of a new Ferrari-based Dino brand that was entirely devoid of
Ferrari badging. With its powerful 2,418 cc engine, and a reported
146 mph top speed coupled with race-inspired handling, the Dino
quickly impressed Ferrari fans.
This particular example, chassis no. 02950, is an early USA Version
E model 246 GT, completed on November 23, 1971 and delivered soon
after to official English Ferrari importer Maranello
Concessionaires Limited in Egham, Surrey, England - equipped with
power windows and Cromodora wheels, finished in a Marrone
Metallizzato over Beige livery. In 1972 it was sold from England to
the States to a doctor in Louisville, Kentucky. From 1975 to 2015,
this GT was owned by just a few long-term caretakers, with all
known history documented by Marcel Massini and Denny Schue's Dino
Register. The mileage displayed 15,624 is believed to be original
and tracks on the history report.
Today the Dino is nicely presented as a striking and very capable
example, displaying beautiful Rosso paintwork with Tan and Black
leather Daytona style chairs, complimented by consistent body gaps
and straight panel fitment. The cabin is very tidy, featuring power
amenities and supple upholstery. Driving this car leaves a lasting
impression. Its numbers-matching engine starts easily without
hesitation and performs well, a recent compression test showed
strong compression on all cylinders.
Dino's have developed into highly sought-after investments with
unmatched design and drivability like no other. Here is a fantastic
opportunity to acquire a nicely documented U.S. specification GT,
available for enjoyment and continued collectability right out of
the box. Competitively priced, this Dino GT makes the ultimate
driver!
